For a long time I've wondered why the pronghorn is so dang fast, with no North American predators anywhere near as fast. Apparently, there used to be something called a "false cheetah" (Miracinonyx) in North America. It was related to the cougar, so it wasn't a true cheetah, but it was lean and FAST!

I didn't do a ton of research on this (just a quick Google job), so if any of the info is incomplete or wrong, feel free to weigh in.


EDIT: Also, pronghorn are more closely related to giraffes than to antelope.

And "mountain goats" are really a kind of antelope. Learned that a while back.
