What did you learn today?

I learned that t.v., the media, the internet and all magazines are all governed and run by commercials and advertising.

Those that run the ads care not an iota about your personal viewing experience or entertainment.

The entertainment is "bait" ...to suck you into watching commercials.

The people on t.v. don't care if they run a banner or pop-up ad right at the key crucial moment of a drama or story.

They don't care if they block out dialogue that is on the screen.

They don't care about you the viewer at all. All they're thinking of is more money from ads.

Canadian television is the absolute worst for this.

It's getting bad when they even have shows like "T.V.'s Greatest Commercials". Who the hell are they trying to kid.

The internet is just as bad now. So is radio.

Which is why my participation (by listening, reading or watching) is becoming less and less all the time.

Today, I learned that it is entirely possible for an engine to form ice crystals on it while running. Coolest thing ever.

I'm still trying to figure out, when I was a kid, how we had a refrigerator that ran on natural gas and it had a pilot light.
You can make ice from heat?
The concept has been explained to me more than once but I still can't wrap my brain around it.
Of course, then again, I don't get how wrapping some copper wire around a magnetic will pick up the sound from another piece of wire it's not even touching.

No need to explain these concepts to me, I prefer blissful ignorance.

Today, I learned about " The Shrieking Girl", the term "social justice warrior"/ SJW, and student groups and activists making noise, protesting and demanding stuff across colleges and universities in America, like trying to get professors fired for not conforming, and everything. I've seen youtube clips, and I'm totally staggered that so much energy is being spent on what to me, seems like minutiae in "the big picture" sense. What I was wondering about was how on earth some of these people would deal with having a boss in the workplace? Or having anyone disagreeing with them about anything. "It's offensive because I think it is offensive" Yeah, that's a real usefull attitude for learning, right? ;) I'm crossing my fingers for that this stuff does NOT come across the Atlantic, and crashes into Europe. We don't need it! :p

Because the world sees you in certain ways whether you like it or not. I've gained a lot of weight in the last few years and I now think that if I had a choice, i'd be black instead because they are treated better than fat people are.
That depends on the circumstances.

If you're getting pulled over, applying for a loan, registering to vote in certain areas, etc., you'd probably rather be fat.
