what DIRECT BOX do you use live ????

After re-reading the OP, ive realised (or "realized" for our American friends) that my earlier post didnt answer the question.

so... My suggestion would be to find a pre you're happy with, be it in pedal, rack or any other form and then have a seperate DI...

this is how i use my Countryman, if the stage power does ever go down (or amp blows up) i will still have signal being sent to where its most important- Front of house.

I understand this isnt the most "cost effective" way to do things, but i believe its a good little insurance cover for yourself... and hey, if the guitards amp goes too, and because you still have signal going to FOH you can always just play a 20 min Jazz/Fusion instrumental with the drummer..

"Derek Smalls- he wrote this one" :D

great points !!!! the tone hammer is what ive been looking at ... also a shuttle(600 and use it for my second head as well) ... but i have recently picked up a line 6 studio 110 combo and had thoughts of just buying a carvin powered 112 cab and line from the combo to the powered speaker and be done with it ...... any thoughts on that ? negatives vs. positives ?????

given the low weight of the shuttle, go for it! might as well have an amp attached to that DI box.

others you might want to consider, GK MB2-500, MB LMII, EA MicroAMP, and that's all i can think of.

Wheres the love for the Avalon U5? Probably the best DI around right now, and it has some tone shaping capabilities and a line level output that is MORE than hot enough to drive a power amp. Did I mention it's built like a tank? ;)

great DI, but frankly, i wouldnt gig w/ one with all the more robust DI's out there.

and i wouldnt freak out if my countryman did the 5 ft drop from the stage. the u5, yes.

if you're using crappy backline crap that the crappy club gives you where in the middle of your set, the craptastic amp craps out on you, then yes.
LOL! I guess I'm spoiled. If an amp breaks on me, I just tell the backline guy I need another amp and I get it. Fortunately, my crappy club days are pretty much over.

Tonewise it's about 5 steps up. And it'll actually power a power amp. But alas, no DI.

Um, actually, it is a DI. It just doesn't have an XLR out. I've been in touch with the people over at Tech 21 and I'm just waiting for this unit to arrive to HK so I can test drive it before I decide if I want to get it.

The output is a balanced 1/4" and it has speaker sim on it so you can take that sucker and go direct to a board.

On topic of the thread:

I currently use a BDDI. I am getting a Countryman on Thursday. The Bassbone and the SVT Character pedal are both on the shopping list as well.

I also own a Radial ProDT2 - but I don't use that for bass. I might get a JDI too. But somehow figure I won't since I'm getting a Countryman.
