what do 30 year olds listen to?

so i'm a little over 30 now and i look throught my playlists and my entire music collection and i have started noticing that i've not added anything in a few years. don't get me wrong i have a pretty wide range of music i like, but i've not heard anything to really catch my ear in quite some time. i like hardcore / grindcore music, but i hate the screaming. not much into what is called pop anymore, and i've never much been a fan of country. jazz and blues are great, but i still feel the need to mix it up a bit. so what are the other 30+ people out there listening to?

Well, this is a really vague and lazy topic IMO, but I'm bored and sick so what the heck, I'll bite.

(as a full disclaimer, I actually don't turn 30 for another couple of months, but I'm assuming that's close enough?)

I'll start by saying that sometimes I feel like I'm living on a different planet than people like the OP who can't seem to find any "good" new music. It's never been easier to browse tons of music and find a myriad of resources on any single niche genre you can possibly imagine. IMO there's such a huge influx of amazing music being made and distributed that I really honestly believe that in 50 years this time period will be talked about in the same way that rock in the 60s is talked about now. This will be a period of time known for the insanely prolific output of music and mixing of genres.

there's also a pretty awesome new invention called "google" that works well for finding new music, you type in a genre you like and it totally gives you thousands of web pages about said genre.

Anything you want.
Age has nothing to do with musical taste.
I'm in my 50's and just started digging the Clash, and other "Punk" bands.
Had no interest in Punk, back then. ( late 70's)
Any music, is good music.

well I'm close to 30 too.

I listen to Dream Theater, Joe Pass, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Les Claypool, Primus, Decapitated, Quo Vadis ( the metal band from Quebec ), old Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush ... Jaco, John Patitucci, CAB ...

You will have to listen to music you don't like to find what you do like. I suggest you take a CD player to the nearest library & start listening to a little of everything. That includes the classical disks, ethnic music, new age, world music, latin, folk/acousitic ... No library nearby? Road trip! Plan some weekends away.

You clearly like music so this will not be unbearable torture, a chore or even as annoying as <insert mildly annoying task here> Enjoy 8-)

why would you possibly need to go to the library to find music when you're already posting on the internet, that to me is just completely absurd. It's like leaving the library to go to the grocery store in order to find a good book.

thanks for the replies everyone.

allow me to clear one thing up, i'm not saying everything old is awesome and everything new sucks. i'm saying everything out there new that i'm finding sucks, and there MUST be something new that is good, i'm just not finding it.

i totally forgot about pandora, i'll go make an account right now. i'm not in front of my computer for very long at a time. i'm normally out in the garage working on making my car go faster or playing bass very quietly as to not bother the other people i live with. however, with that said, i will try pandora again to see what may come.

the problem with typing in google for a certain genre of music is the fact that i have to go through 6,000 pages of bands i already know so see something i haven't seen before. i'm really not that lazy or computer illiterate, just frustrated.

and lastly, to the gentleman who recommended The Black Keys, you sir have won the thread.

Somebody on the library staff chose to spend a limited budget on music that was requested or music thought likely to appeal to library users. Radio stations likely choose music that will sell advertising or came with a promo fee. Internet radio has so much music you would spend a large amount of time filtering music you don't like and visiting sites devoted to narrow musical interests.

Using the library is like having the results of a focus group of people like you. Does it make more sense now? 8-)

i'd recommend getting a subscription to rhapsody for a few months. it's prolly 10 bucks a month or so, but allows you to listen streaming all you want. and the selection is pretty huge, and you can search by genre and get recommendations based on what you like. find some things ya like then go out and buy them from wherever.

doosu(not new....not even a band anymore....but great check out "four steps" or "juggernaut" or "war plan orange" from thier album fung shui. aqua vita is also a cool record)

I'm already 39, but my favorite is still Pearl Jam(go for their live stuff over their studio albums though.).
However, I generally listen to heavier $hit such as:
