What do you consider a "heavy" bass?

hahahahahaha thunderthumbs , good one. yeah, 10 lbs is about my max. im 137lbs so it makes a bigger difference. i love my music man but its 14 lbs, only survived two gigs lol. now its a stay at home bass. johnny a.

I've owned plenty of heavy basses that I might have felt were heavy in one hand or something but when strapped on the weight is pretty widely distributed. I had a Les paul bass that was a bit over 15 lbs, I knew it was on the heavier side but certainly wasn't debilitatingly heavy. I don't know I've just never understood the whole 'my bass is too heavy thing'. My ampeg 8-10, now that's another story....:help:

When I played a used 'Ray at my local GC, I loved the neck but couldn't abide the weight. It was beautiful, but I knew as soon as I picked it up off the wall it wasn't for me. Sorry I didn't have a scale around but it must have been well over 10 lbs and much heavier than the Jazz on the hook right next to it. My regular P-bass is just a bit over 9 and the 'Ray was probably two pounds heavier. Never have I had a burst finish bass or guitar in my hands be that heavy. The new 'Rays were so high on the wall I didn't bother taking one down to compare. It had to be an outlier, it didn't seem to have been played a lot.

Age has made me much more sensitive to weight. Nowadays, I wouldn't have one of those old ash-bodied natural finish basses that comes in over 12 pounds even if it were given to me. 9.5 or lighter is about all I can handle.

Prolly like over 17lbs....

I have a bass thats like 15. And it doesn't bother me, but I don't play 3hour gigs. But I do take in to consideration that I will play for about an 30min to an hour (just playin songs I know and jamming) and be jumpin around my room like a crazy person. So, take it with a grain of salt.
