What do you consider a "heavy" bass?

the heaviest bass I ever played was a 70's thunderbird bass - I realize now why everyone I ever saw play one (they are cool looking) was over 6' tall.
the gibson les paul basses are clubs too. currently i'm playing a 70's precision and a Spector legend. neither are what I would consider "heavy"

Anything over 9 pounds is heavy. My heaviest bass is 9.5 pounds and I don't play it often because of the weight.

I prefer basses in the 8 - 8.5 lb range and consider basses over 9.5 lbs to be heavy.
I do, however, have an H/S Sterling that weighs 10 lbs and feels fine because it is so perfectly balanced.

I would consider anything over 9 lbs. as heavy. 8 lbs. is much more manageable and even lighter is better.

For me I guess noticeably heavy would start around 11 lb. Doesn't mean I'd automatically rule it out as a player.

I'm with the "10lb+ is heavy" bunch .

I've had heavier basses ('70s Fenders, a Wal Custom and others), but after a while I started to view them with a bit of dread and gravitated towards the lighter basses in my collection .

Since selling off all of the heavy stuff, I have a 'No basses over 10lb' rule, which I've stuck to ever since. Basically, I'm a wuss - I hate pain .

my axl bass is 13.5.bloody heavy..but the sustain is out of this world

My MM SR5 is 10.4 pounds. It was fine when I was in college and jumping around but now that's about my threshold and anything over that had really better be awesome.

My 11.5 pound Lakland DJ5 ends up hurting me after a while so I don't play it that much unless I can sit down.

The best decision I made recently was to spend the money on a NYC Sadowsky for the chambered body.

i love cats, but i wouldn't want to hold a 13lb. one for 3-4 hrs during a gig.

I think there would be other problems in trying to hold a cat for 3-4 hrs. Only least of which is weight.

I guess there are advantages to being 6'2" 230lbs.
I'm a newb so the longest I've ever had a bass strapped on is a practice session at home (about an hour), but I don't even notice the thing, weight-wise.
Now stretching these old joints out to the end of the neck for that long is another story entirely.

This isn't the thread you predicted it would be. And by throwing your prediction out there without cause per this thread, aren't you pushing it in the direction you're complaining about?

And does it really bother you to play it?

That's all. Nothing about weight affecting tone, light basses sucking or anything of that ilk. The thread you "saw" wasn't the one you clicked on.

:idk: I don't really think my T-40 is that heavy and all I've heard since getting it is "get a huge strap" and the like... It's heavier than my Fender, for sure, but it's not back-breaking or anything.
