What do you consider a "heavy" bass?

Another one of what? I ran a search, and couldn't find anything recent on this topic.
Note that this thread isn't about heavier is better. It's about weight only. I thought that was clear in the first post, when I didn't mention anything about sound.
Jeez I can't imagine how much my Warmoth explorer weighs.. I'll put her on the scale and let you know but honestly I've never thought too much about it.
I always found my Ric 4003 to be light but to hear that they're close to heavy is surprising to me.
My explorer is heavy as a beast and it DOES bother me (to answer the OP's question). The weight doesn't bother me as much as the neck heavy-ness though.

Good point about balance!! I used to fly Cessna airplanes, and as a pilot, one must take into account both weight and balance.
For basses, even if it doesn't weigh much, if it has neck dive, it won't be as comfortable as a bass that is well balanced.
But since the OP is focusing only on weight and not on balance, I won't belabor the balance issue any further so as to not derail this thread.

I have an old yamaha bb1000s and it's too heavy too play during an entire gig or rehearsal. I tried an ibanez atk last week. I loved the feel, but definitely too heavy.

Im not sure what my G&L L2500 Tribute weighs exactly, but that thing is heavy! I can deal with it for maybe half a gig, but its just too uncomfortable to go the entire 4 hours wearing that thing. It should be noted that early this year I fractured two vertebrae which Im sure contributes to my discomfort.
Over ten pounds gets a bit heavy after a couple of hours, but my heavy basses are also the ones that sound the best. My G&L, Lakland, and Fender Jazz are all over ten pounds, my '51 P-bass is slightly under 8 pounds, so I'm covered either way.
Some guys evidently don't have much luck attracting some "bleep" after a show...one reason I play a lot of gigs at animal shelters.

medium-8.5 lbs-9.5 lbs.
heavy-10 lbs-11 lbs.
I would not play a bass over 11 lbs.
I feel a bass over 11 lbs. has to much sustain for my tastes.
For the tone I like, 7.5 lbs. - 8.5 lbs. work best.
I've never found a solid relationship between weight and sustain. My light basses have plenty of sustain, as do my heavier basses. Although, I once played a few super heavy EBMMs and Wicks that seemed to have a complete lack of sustain.
