What do you do to wind down after a gig?

Me and the singer usually try and mingle with the crowd and thank anybody we know who took the time to come out to see us. I usually hang out and have a few drinks and check out the other bands (competition) and try to network. I'm not in my 20s any more and married so my chasing tail days are behind me. The guitarist has a business and usually has to leave imediately. The drummer well he's new to the band and he's 22 yrs old....

This thread is good to read because I can NEVER calm down after I play and could use some strategies! Even when I'm not playing a gig, like if I practice for a few hours, it winds me up and somehow makes me feel strangely focused at the same time, if that makes sense. I guess it's probably how some people feel when they meditate? I don't know. It's just this really intense adrenaline rush/sense of spiritual bliss that makes me feel like I can just keep playing forever...like absolutely nothing else matters. I used to just go hide after gigs because I would want to savor that feeling by myself for as long as possible...but now I've come out of my shell more and will hang out and talk to people because it helps bring me back down to earth a bit. I'm a pretty high-strung, intense person (naw, really?! haha) and kind of an adrenaline junkie...I actually have a hard time winding down after anything exciting happens in my life. I have to be really careful with caffeine before the gig or it feels like my heart is racing the whole time. I'm not big on drinking before I play but afterwards I'll have a drink to try and chill out.

And, yeah. Then I go home and practice. :D

All those hard core jazz and bebop players like Miles and Parker would rehearse after gigs when the clubs closed.
Makes sense, you are on after playing a few sets…

load out, get back to the studio, load gear back into it, a few bowls with whoever is helping me , sometimes we grab the acoustics and strum away , sometimes we even come up with the basis of a new song like that , we will have a beer or two , listen to what we came up with , then wind down by three or four, hit the sheets. Next day I will listen to the tracks we recorded, Mix down if it is decent or junk it if its crap

I usually go somewhere quiet (well... quieter than inside the venue) for 5 to 10 minutes, talk with random people and then I comeback inside and just see how weird things can get (my band is a weirdo-magnet, so its always entertaining)

FULL BLOOD
I love it. If you guys ever make it to the dirty, I could maybe land you guys some good shows in ATL and Athens. Bring it.

Cool thread!!

For me, it depends on what night the gig is. We usually play on Thursday nights from 6:30 - 9:30. After break down, loading the vehicles and getting paid, it'll be about 10:30. Get home, shower, brush teeth, then if I'm lucky, sleep by 11:00. Then I gotta wake up at 3:15/3:30 to go to work.

I'm usually off on Sundays, so Saturday gigs (which many times finishes at around 1:30 am), I may hang out for a beer or go to McD's and get a double QP meal. Then home, shower, go on the computer for a bit, then go to sleep.

For the occasional Sunday night gig, I'll request Mondays off and do the same as the above.

Parties, depending on what time it finishes or how tired I am varies from McD's to just going straight home.
