What do you do to wind down after a gig?

Usually I'll hang around for a little while and chat it up before heading home. For the ride home it is anything except music on the radio, usually NPR or local news radio.
Wow. I thought I was the only one who did this. Yes I hang around for a bit and chat people up. Then I find some sort of news on the radio. Anything that involves talking. Sometimes I listen and sometimes it's just on.

Once I hit the pillow the next thing I get it the smell of coffee and eggs. The wife has let me sleep in until breakfast is ready and the kids are dressed. (Love that woman.)

Hi,

Chill w/ a snack, cold cereal often, then TV or more likely an hour of video gaming.

Computer games tend to get me going. I like the 3D shooters and saving the world from alien invasions. I can remember several nights that I'd come home after a gig, start up a game of Half Life2 and my wife would catch me at 6:30am the next morning, still playing.

Now I'll logon to check my email and upload pictures from the gig. But no games. They make me hyper. :hyper:

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

This thread is good to read because I can NEVER calm down after I play and could use some strategies! Even when I'm not playing a gig, like if I practice for a few hours, it winds me up and somehow makes me feel strangely focused at the same time, if that makes sense. I guess it's probably how some people feel when they meditate? I don't know. It's just this really intense adrenaline rush/sense of spiritual bliss that makes me feel like I can just keep playing forever...like absolutely nothing else matters. I used to just go hide after gigs because I would want to savor that feeling by myself for as long as possible...but now I've come out of my shell more and will hang out and talk to people because it helps bring me back down to earth a bit. I'm a pretty high-strung, intense person (naw, really?! haha) and kind of an adrenaline junkie...I actually have a hard time winding down after anything exciting happens in my life. I have to be really careful with caffeine before the gig or it feels like my heart is racing the whole time. I'm not big on drinking before I play but afterwards I'll have a drink to try and chill out.

And, yeah. Then I go home and practice. :D
