What do you do to wind down after a gig?

Usually its the drive back to my drummers house to unload and we all talk about what mistakes were made and what we'd like to do/try different next gig. Sometimes it's WAFFLE HOUSE!

Hi,

I'm usually well-caffeinated at the gig. These days I drive home, unload rig into the garage, carry axes into the house, crack a beer if there's some in the fridge, then logon and upload pictures to the CAS thread.

After I'm home from a gig it usually takes me an hour or two to settle down enough to sleep.

I'm usually pretty wound up after a gig so I try and avoid people. I know that sounds rude, but i find it hard to finish a gig then walk around meeting people in a club where you have to raise your voice to have a conversation. I like to find some quiet zone to wind down.....when I used to tour a lot there was always a bandroom or tourbus to hide in.

Typically after a gig is when it gets fun for me, get back to the guitards house for the after party, typically it involves everyone that got to the bar after 10 and a lot of alcohol until about noon the next day, then it's nap time for everyone.

I like to hit In and Out Burger for a #1 combo in a car tray after gigs and pig out on the way home.

Load up, hit the road, find an all night store to buy a huge coffee, try to stay awake at the wheel, get home and watch Mr. Ed reruns till 6 am because I'm too buzzed by the huge coffee that I bought at 3am.

I usually get stoned and make a pot of green tea with a snack before I crash.

I feel striking is just as stressful as set-up and performing. The go home to mama crowd is in a hurry to get on the road. So we help them get gone, then the stay at the bar crowd finishes up. Oh, BTW, this is at a beach bar that has an upstairs room for the band. A/C and hot and cold bathroom. Just fine for a bunch of hardheads to camp out in. So after all is done, we hang out on the top deck, watch the lights twinkle across the bay, the cars coming across the bridge to the island. It's even too high for the ravenous bugs to fly. So we smoke and drink and run our mouths about music, mostly....Ahhh...Paradise.

Depends on the time we finish. If the bar is still open, I'll have a beer. Otherwise, I just drive home.

In my 20's I was always so wired from the energy of the show that I couldn't fall asleep until the next day. So we would just party and make bad decisions until we dropped over.

20 years later, gig nights are the ONLY time I ever stay up past midnight anymore so it's all I can do to stay awake for the drive home. Once I'm in the door, it's literally minutes until sleep.

If the wifes with me it's Waffle House and cheese eggs and hashbrowns. If she aint , it's a double cheeseburger at the local McD'ds. Then , home , stuff the bass in the basement and hit the sack. Amp can stay locked in the back of the truck till morning , or whenever I wake up.

struggle to stay awake at the wheel and when i pull into the driveway usually fall asleep immediately as soon as i turn off the key, wait for the GF to call a few hours later waking me up asking me what the hell im doing still in the car. unload car, freezing, with a sore neck, then bed. true story, happens this way a lot. its really special when the wake up call comes just an hour before i have to be back to the day job.
