I get stuff thrown at me from my band mates constantly. Knee jerk reaction is to follow the 5 D's
Dodge
Dip
Duck
Dive...
Dodge...
Don't throw your bass back at them though. You kinda need that.
hope the chicken wire in front of you stops it

Opening for Bad Religion at a pretty big theater in Detroit. Somebody in the audience is throwing things at us, can't tell what they are. Finally we get a good look at these projectiles and they turn out to be severed gopher heads. This nut job had a whole bag of them. Our guitar player was so outraged that he jumped into the audience and confronted the guy, almost got into a fist fight before the bouncers took the guy out. Other than that, it was a pretty good set.
Something gets thrown at the band (unless done in fun and harmless) SHOW IS OVER (period)...
Just keep playing man....the show must go on:
most venues dont give the people stuff to throw. drinks are served in cans or plastic cups usually. The places that do give the crowd stuff to throw are usually outdoor venues. But id keep playing and keep my eye on the toolbag who threw something and if he gets close to the stage club him with a bass or give him a swift punch to the face.
Drunk cougars FTW. One of the perks of being the young guy in the band (34, versus 54 (drummer) and 55 (singer/guitarist).It depends on what is being thrown. One gig at a bar/club we play at pretty frequently was rolling pretty well, the crowd was lubed and getting down. In the last set I realised someone just threw a piece of paper at me (I often play with my eyes closed). As I looked up this pretty hot cougar was throwing another wad of paper at our lead guitarist. I looked down at the paper near me and saw that it was a wadded up $1 bill. Eventually she ran out of ones and started throwing fives. Over the course of the third set she ended throwing about $30 onto the stage. It was this woman, it was her anniversary, that dude on my right is her husband, and they were *lit*. Needless to say, I suppose.
