What do you do with your Tweeter?

...I'm running through a VT bass as sort of an always on toneshaping tool. Since that pedal has speaker simulation built in to simulate the freq response of an 810 would that mean that its not allowing any of the frequencies that would normally activate the tweeter to pass?

I hate to be Dr. Obvious, but since we don't know the cross-over point, spectrum of the output of the pedal, the frequency response curves of the hypothetical 810 and your cab, or what to do with them if we did, why not set it so it sounds how you like it, and leave the tone dogma to the tone deaf???

Maybe i should just disconnect it. Aslong as i can restore it later so that the resale of the cab is not effected.

I never felt that they made that big of a difference, at leas in terms or that rock sound I love to have. It adds a little bit too much of high-end harshness in some cases.

I have 2 Avatar Sb112 cabs and to those that say the Avatar tweeters are harsh, I think it may have something to do with EQ, your bass, amp, etc. . Mine at 50% are not harsh at all. And I play with a big , stiff pick on top of that ! Those knob thingys CAN be moved , from time to time, you know. I think Dave is a pretty sharp guy and there must be a reason that he put those tweeters and crossovers in the cabs. After all, it would be cheaper to make cabs without tweeters. I, for one, am not going to argue cab design with Avatar, Aguliar, Genz Benz, Epifani, Eden, etc. I am hoping that Bill F. will chime in soon. Come on Godfather, we need your input.

My cab has an on/off switch and a half/full switch... I put it half on.

Dave uses Foster horns, which are fairly standard OEM-quality products IMO, which is to say neither excellent nor terrible. He made a significant improvement to his crossovers in 2006 or 2007, and since then I've found his cabinets' high end to be completely usable, at least in a gigging situation. I did replace the horn on a Neo 410 I bought from him a few years back - as much as a project as a response to a dramatic need. The replacement was a Selenium tweeter which did provide somewhat smoother high end, but not night and day. IMO, Avatar cabinets' tweeters and crossovers are as good as the really mass-produced stuff you find at Guitar Center.

If I had a cab with one of those sorry things, I'd rewire the cab so the tweeter and crossover were both out of the circuit. With me it would be a matter of principle more than anything else.

I only have a on/off and its off.
But heck I'm so new to playing I still don't like my G string(its just to high for my tastes) but maybe that will change with flatwounds.

I tried to put distortion into my cab and the tweeter just squeeled. Terrible, hence I disconnected it.

Like I said earlier, when I first got a cab w/ a tweeter i ran it off or maybe to 20% or so, but lately I have been digging it around 50%. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. Never say Never-----

I work with two Neo 210 Avatar cabinets as a vertical stacked 410.
Top cabs horn set roughfully at 45%.
Bottom cab almost off.
I don't find the Avatar horns any more harsh sounding than SWR's, Eden's, Fender's, Ampeg's, ect., ect., ect.

You want a "hot button"? If you must add distortion to your BASS signal so you sound like a 15 year old kid playing guitar badly to cover up a lack of style/technique then turn the tweeter off. If you like and can use the full pallet and rich sounds available from your bass, adjust the tweeter's output to taste. Bass does not have to sound dull, thumpy and undefined.

I have a Schroeder 1212L cab and run the tweeter 100% all the time. To my ears the cab sounds best that way. If I want to cut treble, I can cut it with the treble control on the bass.
