what do you keep in your bass case?

I keep my main bass tucked away in a slick Fender molded hardshell case, one of those SKB-designed bad boys. It's a wonderful case, but sadly there just isn't enough storage space for my needs. And my needs are vast. I'm one of those "Be Prepared" guys, so I end up bringing a backpack along loaded with stuff. Stuff like...

Instrument cables. Speaker cables. Cable adapters. Picks. Strings (guitar & bass). Straps. AC cables. Power strips. Hex wrenches. Screwdriver. Tuner. Peg winder (guitar & bass). Electrical tape. Gaffer tape. Duct tape! Pocketknife. Bottle opener. Demo CD's. Permanent marker. Paper. Flashlight. Drum key. Fuses. Mics (if we have extras). Mic stand. Batteries. Tylenol. The list just goes on and on... geez, I don't even remember everything I have in my bag.

I strongly recommend that every band have at least one freak like me who's always got the right tool for every bad situation. You could even put together a "Gig Emergency Kit" from all the info in this thread!

I only keep a strap in each case, nothing else.

My gig box has all my tools, cables, spare strings, etc.
NO! I don't put my name and address on/in my case. If my bass were to get stolen, I certainly don't want them to know where to find more.

Same here, but I do have luggage tags with my name & cell phone number on all my cases.

Each of my basses has a dedicated Moody strap so they're always with the bass. In my case I have a spare instrument cable and a wipe down cloth.

All the other stuff goes into a gym bag (extra strings, tools, batteries, gaffer tape, etc. etc. etc)

Bass (obviously), straps, spare straplock, bag of picks, tuner, 9-volt battery, tuner batteries, allen wrench for truss rod adjstment, and a screwdriver for intonation tweakes, 10-foot cable (30-footer stays in a big ziplock bag).

Oh! If your bass doesnt fit in the case right stuff a towel around your baby so that she doesnt move during transport;)

I'm using a Rockcase Flight Case right now (I'd rather slip on ice with the bass in that than a gigbag), but the items in the case are the same as the bag:

- Previous set of strings
- Cloth for wiping neck
- Mighty Bright stand light
- Extra AAA for stand light
- 9v for the bass
- Pencil
- Westone Ear Plugs
