what do you keep in your bass case?

Two quick things:
1) I've seen a bunch of people that said "a cord". I ALWAYS have a spare cord. You never know when someone will snag it or it just goes bad.
2) I put stickers on my case. I know that some of you might not like the look of it but a guy "mistakenly" grabbed my '65 P instead of his Mex J at a gig. We had the same case but I caught him before he got out the door. Now I worry much less as gigs, I can spot my case from across the room.

I found my five strings Fender Jazz Bass. A little bag with the three size of allen keys needed for calibration and, I don't know why, a drumm tunning key. A dehumidifier, yes one of these cotton bags with Silica Gel inside, it help to mantain dry inside. A rug to clean the bass.

A bottle (or two) of whiskey.

I have an older lakland double gigbag....

1 55-94 Deluxe
1 Dual J 55
2 Straps
2 Regular Instrument Cables
1 Short cable to plug my tuner into the back of my Shuttle
Extra set of strings
Towel
Allen wrenches for bass
Small screwdrivers
Korg Pitchblack Tuner
Pack of 9 volts
Shuttle 9.0 in front pocket
1 18" speaker cable 1/4" to Speak-On
1 18" speaker cable Speak-On to Speak-On

Bass and strap only... but what I don't have in my case is the key to the case! One of the first things I do when I get a new/new to me bass is throw away the key that locks the case, because I can just see one of my band mates or kids, for that matter, mucking around with the key, locking the case and losing the key... I's much rather not have to even think about that scenario.

Vicadin, Tramadol, antacids, soft polishing cloth, 9V battery, a few harmonicas, felt picks, retired-business cards, a Trac-Fon, a small LED AAAA-cell penlight.

All my basses have RoadRunner hard cases and they travel that way too. No soft bags are allowed as you can still bend a neck in a soft bad even though it may not get scratched.

All other gear goes in two aluminum flight-type luggage. Harbor Freight has some fairly nice ones for cheap!

I usually bring 2 basses. Each one gets a strap and spare 9v battery.

The rest of the stuff goes into a small gym bag. Instrument cords (primary and backup), mic cords for DI, spare AC cords, spare speaker cord, extension cords, small toolkit, flashlight, towel, previous strings, tee shirt, tape, backup tuner.

It stays packed so I know if the bag's there, I'm covered. :)

I don't know if anybody already posted these two products (I didn't feel like reading through 4 pages to see if someone else did), but I recommend these....

By the way, I don't work for either of the brands or best bass gear, I just really like these two products and find them highly useful.

+1 on spare batteries!! +1 on spare cables (in case one shorts randomly, or sometimes the guitar player will forget his....)
