What do you use to record rehearsals?

I thought this was just for the file format, it still sounded like it was applying compressor type effects to normalize the sound (which makes sense if you’re just using it for voice memos)

The Lossless audio quality setting in the Voice Memos app on iPhone records audio at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz without compression. This is the same audio quality as a CD.

totally get the recording format and quality, but it sounds to me like they’re applying a compressor effect to make voices more even. Sounds like an auto compressor and limiter. Not file compression but audio level compression and limiting.

The zoom h and q series recorders record surprisingly good audio in my opinion. I don’t like a lot of the stuff they make but I have to give it to them, they make really good audio recording devices.

I used to use the Zoom field recorders (H1 then upgraded to a H6) but now I use a Tascam Model 24. It's a lot to drag out to band practice but after hearing the results I don't think I can go back to the old handhelds.
