What do you use to store unused pedals?

Does anyone have any good storage cases or ideas for storing unused pedals and other small gear?

Ikea Mosslanda shelves are very popular for this, I've used them before. They are quite cheap. I'm in a rental now though and don't want to be installing a bunch of shelves here, so I'm looking for a good solution as well.

I always thought brief cases, camera cases, rifle cases or even solid guitar cases could easily be modded for this.
I think someone should start making pedal boards that carry like a briefcase and when you open them up the shelves lift up just right ready for use.

Any old box. Make a fort out of them.
They’re not gaining value.

I only have a couple or three pedals and small electronic gear that I store when I'm not using them.
For most, I still have the original packaging so I put it back in the plastic bag it came in then back in the packaging.
For those I don't have the packaging, I have some small, cloth sacks that I put them in. I do both of these things to keep dust from creeping into them.
Then, I put them all into a larger carboard box so they are in one place, which I store in the closet.

No matter what you choose to store them in, remember to remove the batteries. Especially alkaline. Double especially if they are Dura-leaks.

for long-term storage, i like to give them to someone else, say, a friend.

If you’re not into displaying stuff, then keeping everything in its original box which you then pack into a stackable banker’s or similar storage box (with a sheet of paper inside listing what’s in it) is the easiest and least expensive way I know - and use. It’s very similar to how things are stored in an archive.



Also works well for documents, books, holiday decorations, and other seasonal stuff.

Pedals you bought used that didn’t come with a box can be stored in small self closing mailing boxes. They’re inexpensive. I mostly use the 4x3x6 size. Plain corrugated boxes of that type and size run around $20 for 25 on Amazon.



I opted for some fancier shiny blue boxes. Most of the used pedals I own are stored in one of these. They pack well in banker boxes.

I use the "clear" Sterilite or other brand boxes - at 6 quarts they are a little larger than shoe boxes, hold about 6-10 pedals and are stackable. (search: 6+quart+plastic+container)

I put labels on 'em, keep the dirt with the dirt, the filters with the filters, etc.

Sometimes I put 'em in plastic bags so they don't get scratched when stacked in the boxes.

I have a lot of pedals.

The boxes are stacked on a wire shelf unit.

I have also used a hang-on-the-door shoe storage "organizer" - also good for other stuff like mic's ... (search: shoe+organizer)

I keep my boxes and the plastic wrap, so if they come off the board, back into the original packaging they go until I sell them.

Kind of simple, but it works. Definitely remove the batteries if storing for long term.

I use my old pedal boards that have soft cases as well as several RoadRuner Pedal Board All-in-1 bags. MF used to put these on sale for 20 bucks and I will pick up another if I see that price again.
