What does a heart attack feel like ?

I've never been attacked by a heart, but I heard it's squishy and will leave your clothes stained.

I had a heart attack last night.

In Guitarded Center, listening to the annoyance blasting out of the in-store radio station.

Asked the guy, "Who the F is this?"
"It's The Mars Volta."
"Oh God... wait. WAIT! Doesn't that band have a male singer?"
"Yeah."
"HE SOUNDS LIKE A WOMAN!"
"Well, yeah..."
"WHY does the music industry embrace a band whose singer hasn't even hit puberty yet???"
"Ummm..."


I thought I was gonna die. Then I saw a picture of Geddy Lee on the wall and it all made sense and the pain faded away.

My in-laws live up north on waterfront property. A few years ago, winter-time, a “neighbor” had a HA in his basement and collapsed onto his wood burning stove. Not sure if he was dead first but the story is he was well-done when they found him.

2 years ago I was experiencing unusual pain in my left chest so I went to the ER and got all the heart tests. Turned out to be gas, which will mimic HA pain.

all i know is that it's something that i hope none of my family members or closest friends never have to deal with....

sometimes when i train, there are times when i feel like i'm having one, so maybe i'm a little more prepared. lol

Well, that initial feeling of shock, but repeated over and over again until you lose conciousness - I guess !?

Hi,

I'm a doctor. Basically people most often complain of chest pain or pressure, with or without radiation down the left arm, up to the jaw or the lower teeth. Dizziness, shortness of breath, a feeling of palpitations in the chest, sweating profusely (diaphoresis), nausea, vomiting, and/or a feeling of impending doom are also common. If someone has any of these symptoms, regardless of how long they last, they should go to an emergency room right away.

Women often complain of the above but they more frequently display some of the more uncommon symptoms: RIGHT-sided chest pain, radiation to the back, etc.

Diabetics frquently have "silent" heart attacks - the blood vessels that feed their nerves get clogged with sugar, basically, and the nerves stop working, so the person can have a heart attack and not feel a thing. That's bad - the pain is your body's way of telling you to go get some help.

Sadly, my father had a heart attack two weeks ago, but had a successful triple bypass since . I was with him when he was having the attack. He just complained of an odd feeling that you'd get where it feels like you need to crack your back. Would never of guessed it was a heart attack.

I can't say what a heart attack feels like, but I can tell you what an Angina attack felt like.

Had one the 1st of September. Sharp pain in the center of the chest, tingling down the upper part of my left arm, and then my forehead broke out in a quick sweat.

I had an artery on the front of my heart that was blocked about 90%. Had to have a Heart Cath, and a stent put in to clear out the artery, and keep it open.

It's a scary position to be in. We take a great deal of things for granted, including poor lifestyle. This was my undoing, but I'm living healthier, and hope to live another 40 years...LMAO

All of the above, pretty much. A kidney infarction is significantly more painful though, in my experience.

Apperently it feels like huge pressure on your chest, and many other wonderful things.

I actually had a really scary experience three weeks ago today. It was about 3:30 in the morning, and I had just finished an assignment, and I went to get a glass of water, and my chest had a few sharp pains when I took a deep breath. Weird. Suddenly I yawned, so it was a really deep breathe, and my chest exploded with pain for 5-10 seconds where I couldn't breathe, and I fell to my knees. And that was that. I grab my water, and walk upstairs, went as fast as it came. What the hell was it? My parents said that it's nothing to worry about, and that I must've imagined it. I feel great, haven't had a problem since.

anyone wanna help me out on this one? I googled it, and nothing really came up. I have a doctors check up next week, so I'll bring it up then.

I've had what you just described. I believe it has something to do with muscle spasms in the chest/ribs, nothing to do with the heart.

Cool, thanks, cause it sure hurt like hell, and it felt spot on to where my heart is, but that makes more sense now.

Could have been a muscle spasm, but also could have been a ruptured bleb or something. If it went away as quickly as it came, and you're a young guy with no medical problems, I'd favor muscle spasm.

Thank You So Much Major, for starting this thread. On lark I read it, and guess what. Saturday morning I was sitting watching my kid @ soccer practice and fealt the worst indigestion I had ever fealt, no biggie, I grabbed some rolaids. Then my jaw started feeling a bit stiff. I started to get worried and drove myslef to the ER. Yep, sure enough. The doctors are still undecided whether it was a full fledged attack or not. I had an angiogram, cat scan , and an echo cardiogram. All proved to be negative for evidnece of a attack. The docs seems to think I ahd a small clot that gummed things up. But I did the right thing, so it didn't go off into the ditch. I found out the one of my aeortas is enlarged, but not blocked. It could be from all the weight lifting, we're not sure. So, for now, I'm out of comission.

Ari, thanks for this post. Read my post to Major Metal. Your description prompted my trip to the ER this weekend and may have just saved my fat a$$
