What drive/dirt would you pair with a HOG2?

Finally picked up a HOG2, and I have a few slots on my board open at the moment for pedals to compliment it. Wondering what I should hunt after as far as a drive or dirt pedal to pair with it.

Open to pretty much anything outside of something that requires programming at this point, I have a few of those I am still working out and I'm finding that unless it's something super special use like the HOG2, I just prefer knobs.

My dirt of choice would be the Fuzzrocious Rat-Tail (AKA Cat-Tail). This amazing RAT inspired pedal is great for pitch-bending and freezing with the HOG2. I run all my fuzz/octave/filter/synth into it and it handles it like a champ.

There's a lot of options. Ideally, you'll want to start with is a light / transparent overdrive. But it really depends on what music you are looking to make. If you want to hit all the other basses (soz for the pun) then a muff of some sorts, a Rat is nice and then a transistor based Gated fuzz like a SpaceMan Titan II, Mastotron / Woolley Mammouth. "Your the Doom 2" etc...this bit is essential. The Muff can help you with your square waves...overdrive for general dirt but the real synth happens with those transistor based fuzzes.
I would advise getting over your current desktop based UI phobia and get a Source Audio Aftershock and Ultrawave. Those two pedals will totally nail every variant of what you need and between them you'll have 12 preset slots to save to. The new Ultrawave can get really wild and bizarre but it can do a lot of interesting stuff too.
Out side of digital dirt pedals...you are not going to find as much versatility and you'll end up with a lot of separate dirt pedals. A muff sounds like a muff because of it's circuit design and components. A Mastotron can't sound like a light overdrive because it doesn't have those components or design. Some pedals like the JHS Muffeletta allow a change of the supporting components so that you can dial the different muff sounds...however...it will always sound like a muff however you dial it.
A pedal like the Dam Ezekiel (clone) allow a lot of fuzz variation and is probably the most versatile analogue overdrive and fuzz pedal ever made. The Creation Audio Holy Fire has both an Overdrive and Fuzz circuit, but you'll still need a Doom or Mastotron.
As I said before, if you dip into the SA Aftershock / Ultrawave then you can all of the above (and more) in a one or two box solution, but it will require virtual knob twiddling / UI driving and then saving to presets. You still get 4 assignable knobs on the Ultrawave, plus expression, plus morphing options.

It's not so much a phobia, just a preference. I already have a Source Audio C4 and Nemesis on this board, they're about how far I want to go with programmable pedals at the moment. Kind of in a "figure out what I have, then expand to others later" mode.

I do appreciate the insights. I currently have a Doom2, but it's been sitting on a shelf until I got my C4 and Hog2 sorted out. Also fallen in love with the Wampler Fuzzstration lately. I have a fair chunk of room for the other dirt on the board, so I'm not too bothered by getting individual pedals. I'll keep the other Source Audio stuff on my radar.

I have a Hog2 myself and it's a lot of fun. Lots of great and unique sounds in there. Best organ sounds, even better with a rotary sim. The midi side of it is quite obscure, but it works.

I am hoping to pair mine with a dmcMicro I have on hand, since I got mine used without the foot controller. I think I'll primarily be trying to get organ and pad sounds out of it to start, but don't want to limit my thinking on it. I know it can do so much more than I am even considering. Excited to pair it up with my Wampler Terraform.
