What driver to put in Rumble 115 cab?

I just picked up a Rumble 115 cab minus driver, ok condition and only GBP35. I am new at bass after a lifetime of six string. Probably looking to use a BAM200/elf/ gnome amp with it, playing mostly 70s rock. I don't know what 'sound' l am looking for tbh. Any suggestions for a modest cost driver to fit to get me started? I don't mind doing some woodwork if a 12" better fits the bill. TIA, Brian

Yes, the factory driver is a very good match for the cabinet and not terribly expensive either. I used to have some, but only have a few of the 10's and 12's left.

You would need to provide the internal dimensions and port dimensions to determine if that driver is acceptable. My guess is that the Delta 15 and not the LF version would be a better choice, and the Beta 15 would be closer to the stock driver.

Also, iirc the stock driver is 4 ohms, but the 8 ohm versions of the delta and beta are more sensitive so the 8 ohm versions are fine.

Interesting. I am more than glad to take advice.
Cab internal dims are 24x24x14.5". Single circular front port of 5 3/8". Hope imperial is ok. What software is used to match drivers to cabs, is it easy to interpret results? Thanks.

What is the depth of the port?

This port is simply a round hole in the front panel. It doesn't appear to have had a 'tuning tube' or similar fitted in the past. This is the only one of these that l have seen the inside of so l couldn't say if it is missing a part tbh.

Definitely one, no tube. No piezo or similar btw.
Back panel says- fender model BXR115, 150W 8 Ohm, s/n LO-032210, Made in USA. I've not found much online about it. Thanks for any help!

Right! That explains it, since it’s not a Rumble!

I have the combo version of this cab. When I got it, the driver was completely destroyed. I won’t recommend doing what I did: I had an old, random OEM from something Eminence 15 that was lying around that I put in it. But it was a free amp and speaker with no purpose, so nothing to lose. It sounds fine.

I'll probably get burned for heresy here, but I would take the opportunity to install a modern high-power neo driver (something like the FaitalPro 15PR400 or Eminence Kappa Pro 15LF) and tune the port accordingly. Also swap the ¼" connectors for a Speakon and increase the wire gauge whilst you are at it.

What you bought is not what you received, you kind of got burned on the deal. Disregard my previous comments about using the factory Rumble driver as the cabinet tuning is completely different.

Now for the bad news, none of my docs show a BXR 115 with a round port, but the BRX 215 had a round port. I think that what you have is either a home made cabinet the looks like a BXR-115 with a BXR-115 input plate OR possibly a cut down BXR 215 with the BXR 115 input plate. The port as it sits is way too large for any reasonable driver and tuning as it looks suspiciously like the port for the 215.

Your choices are to install a port tube and re-calculate the tuning for a driver like an Eminence Beta 15 (which is close to the stock driver for the BXR-115) or my suggestion is to simply scrap the cabinet and spend the money buying a better complete used cabinet that you can listen to FIRST BEFORE BUYING.

IMO, there is zero value in the existing cabinet and throwing money into it will be a waste.

Not worth wasting the money on this, no need to increase the wire gauge either as there will be zero difference. SpeakOns are optional, depending on the amp you will be using it with. For this particular cabinet, I recommend sending to the chipper as it's worth virtually nothing.

Google search found some that do have one round port and the same back plate. Most are on non USA sites.
