What ever happened to Stenback basses?

This is very true. I have played (and owned) basses by the greatest luthiers on the planet but the experience of playing a Stenback is something else. I don't know how he does it but everything is just a little bit (or perhaps a lot) better than any boutique Jazz I know.

Would like to get a PM from someone on this forum who is knowledgeable about Stenback Jazz-style basses (particularly 5-string) - and who'd be kind enough to share some knowledge off-thread?

I'd like to find out more, and purchase one - but website is no help, and it is hard/impossible to find much of any useful info/specs on these.
For instance: scale length, string spacing at bridge, nut width, shape/feel of neck, general weight range (are any 5's fairly lightweight - 9.25 or less?), etc.

Are these basses still being made? Would anyone know of a used one that might be available for sale?

Why don't you try contacting the Bass Buddha (his name is Morten Elhers).
He owns a Stenback, so he can provide you with first hand knowledge about his Stenback bass. He also sells boutique basses.

Hi, you can contact Paul Sips of Bass Matters. He is a Stenback seller. He gets some in sometimes, but they are sold before he can list them. I think you can tell you a lot about Stenback basses. Invalid Link Removed

One just landed in my lap and it’s dope. The notes jump off this thing. It’s very responsive. Never played a bass like it. Now I need a 5 string version of it.

Sweet! New or used? Its hard to get much info on these, other than that the prices have gone way up, presumably due to demand. The design factor is off the charts and every clip of one sounds amazing.
