What fretless would be recommended?

+ For the Carvin...I have a Carvin XB75 PF and it plays REALLY nice.I had it built with lines and dots...(kind of by accident),but everyone who sees it,even up close thinks it's fretted.The neck is asymetrical,which adds ALOT to the playability.

The only problem I have with lower priced fretless basses is they usually used a rosewood board and not ebony. Isn't rosewood a bit soft for fretless?

No. Rosewood is wonderful for a fretless IMO.

If you are able to visit one of the Carvin factory outlets (San Diego, Hollywood, Covina, Santa Ana or Sacramento) and play some of their fretless basses by all means do so.

Why not do what I plan on doing: Find a nice bass that works for you....then order a Warmoth or the like fretless neck.

If it works, GREAT !

If not, you still have a nice bass
