What happened to funk?

That's what we're here for! To make everyone feel like crap and act superior! Happy to be of service.

Kidding, of course. Definitely wasn't trying to make anyone ya dumb or anything just speaking my mind. Those who actually read your post know that you didn't say that Max is funk anyway. But, just because they're not funk doesn't make them bad. I mean, how can they be bad if I listen to them? Everything I listen to quality :D.

I'm ok with it, I won't lose sleep over that. I'm not that kind of bass player and this is ok, at least I give it a listen.

The Slave "best of" album, "stellar funk" is a good starting point. Mark Adams on bass (RIP) is a revelation. Such an adventurous and groovy player...I doubt any bassist would not love him.

I agree. Why can't there be a Funk Music radio station. This morning on the way to work I was listening to (my CD) Larry Graham, The Jam, Hair, Can you handle it, and It's Alright. Funk is great party music as well as great listening music. There is a vast difference between FUNK and music that is funky. There is a vast difference between a bassist who is a FUNK Music bass player and one who is a funky bass player. A FUNK bass player can walk in any environment, pick up the bass and change the whole thing around. A funky bass player can only be funky (and not at all times.) FUNK permeates.

I've also been in many Agent booked Corporate/Private/Party bands and guess what gets requested quite a lot?? Funk! They want to hear it! They want to dance to it! And like I said previously, many of those classic funk bands are still touring today which speaks for itself! My area has 2 Funk Festivals a year and several local bands playing it! Radio is the only place where Funk is lacking!

I saw EWF a few years ago..absolutely incredible! Phillip Bailey is one of the most underated singers around!

I also saw the Gap band many years ago, and they sounded really good.


At both these concerts, the crowd was kind of subdued for the opening acts, but came to it's feet when the headliners started!

I like the band but they don't excite me like a good funk band should! I like to get goosebumps excited!

That's because they are not covering any new ground. It's a retread. It's like "Oh look, we are a funk band"....

I like bands and artists that can play funky but sound fresh...bands like "Rudder" and funky world music artists like "Richard Bona".

I think funk died awhile ago....but there is Neo-soul, and a LOT of good stuff in that genre...Rafael Saadiq, Meshell, Angie Stone, Maxwell, D'Angelo, erykah badu, etc....

Rafael Saadiq is really impresive to me.
