What happened to funk?

It just seems affected and superficial to me. I can't feel it, it sounds like pretentious pop to me.
Maybe it's just me, but I hate it of all my guts. Not that a slap line can't fit in, I even like some of Primus stuff or some funky drums, hell I even like Medeski, Martin & Wood (funky as hell but dosn't ever use slap and pop). I guess it's just that your typical funk with your typical funk guitar and cheesy way to use horns, just ads up as being repulsive to me.

I never really got into funk because all the funk I've heard I got a strong mental allergic reaction towards. Me and funk is like mixing acid with base or something.

Look up Medeski, Martin & Wood, you won't be sorry, it's more of a jazzy thing but their groves are pretty funky.

They do make it funky at times, albeit it is only one facet of their sound.

I'm behind you 100%! I mean, Stevie Wonder, Parliament-Funkadelic, James Brown, EWF, Tower of Power, the Gap Band, the Ohio Players, Prince...what could be worse?! Oh the horror, THE HORROR!!!

To each his own, etc., but come on...if you're not going to take the time to listen to quality funk, please don't comment.

I regret not catching Prince at the Forum. He did a bunch of shows there & I didn't go to a single one. I did catch him at the Palace ages ago. He sang & tore it up on every instrument--keys drums bass guitar--except the horn section. I bet he plays some horns too.
And he can ball (according to Charlie Murphy)

Not sure about that one. The bassist is obviously influenced by Louis Johnson but I wouldn't consider Cake funk. My opinion.

I wish Stevie would do a boiled down throwback recording session produced by Lenny Kravitz similar to what Jack White did with Loretta Lynn on Van Lear Rose. Kravitz& White both take that vintage/analog old school approach. Glenn Gould also did a retrospective of the Goldberg Variations later in life--now imagine Stevie recording little Stevie stuff now, maybe up through fullfillingness or inner visions but not that late 80s pop stuff. Right?
