Double Bass What happened to the Pub?

I remember some time ago everyone on TB was raving about the Schertler Pub. These days I don't read anything about it anymore. What happened? Did it turn out not to be the holy grail after all? Too heavy? Not powerfull enough? Not practical in real life? I'm just asking because I'm looking at an affordable way to amplify my bass and the Schertler is an option (much cheaper than AI Focus + Cab which is the other option ).

Well, the Pub is just a powered speaker, albeit a very very good one.

I still use mine quite a bit. Haven't found anything else that small to be nearly as good with a nice preamp, but it is heavy for its size.

What preamp do you use with it? Since you also use the Dyn-B I assume you have the Schertler Pre. Am I right?

The Pub was amazing. I sold mine because it was too damn heavy. There was one day in particular where I ripped a muscle in my back trying to carry the Pub and my bass and other assorted crap down the stairs in my house. A lot of pain for many weeks...

If I remember correctly a Pub 2/280 is 44 lbs. My Wizzy 10 + Clarus SL weighs less than 20 lbs. Huge, huge difference.

The Pub: Great sound for low to medium volumes. Very deep but controlled low end and pleasingly clear highs.

Drawbacks:
1. Heavy for its size
2. Chuffed on low notes at louder levels
3. Became prohibitively expensive

I use mine as an occasional practice amp for EB.

Yes the high end on the Pub was wonderful. I fell in love with that soft-dome tweeter they used and have always wished for the same thing in other cabinets.

I've tried Pub 280 today. It sounded great, but was too small to produce enough low end. So I tried to link it with pub 380, which is an extension subwoofer for the 280. Together they were strong enough and great sounding. For preamp I used a Radial Pre-Z acoustic.
This setup is very expensive, tough. And heavy, too.
