So I was in the local guitar shop today window shopping and I saw a cool looking fender jazz bass.. It was black, had a fender head stock and some kind if double j pickups, all for like $400. Nice score!... Not, when I plugged it in it sounded like crap and sure enough I looked ok the back of the headstock and it said made in china. I didn't even know fender made basses in china, I have to say I am a little but disappointed, when did this start?

Yeah funny isn'it ?? don't say that to a french tester known as David Lo-Pat (half chinese/half european.....!) or he'll kill ya: his test on a well known french site... epic trololo !!

"I found them charming"... :rollno:

A portion of the Squier line is made in China. From the ones I have seen and played, I thought the quality, craftsmanship, tone, playability and finish were all excellent for the price range. There are no Fender's for sale in the under $400 area. The Fenders made in Mexico are $600 and up, The Fenders made in USA are $1,000 and up, way up.

i was wondering the same thing when i saw those basses a month ago... :scowl:

Return it ! For $400 Fender anything is usually better than their competition. As far as China goes, they make everything from A to Z............why complain, if the same bass was made in the USA, it would have been $899 or some other obscene price.....................

I can see squires being made in china, because that's there purpose, to be affordable. Fenders are supposed to be professional level basses, that's why I've always wanted one but I just lost some respect, maybe I'll go for a stingray instead.

Fender is a corporation.
The main focus and mission statement of a corporation is to grow that business.
I would be willing to bet they spend 100's of thousands of dollars on marketing research, customer demands, and the advertising to back it up.
While you or I may disagree, they are producing what they think we want, and are probably planning these products well in advance of release dates.

Fender has filed for an IPO, which will make it a public company. That means shareholders, and minimum labor costs.

IMO, we have little time left. All of their stuff will be made in China or Asia eventually.
There is however, a huge USA supply left. Expect a bit of hype concerning this, and be ready to pay more for American Fender as the months progress.

Just my $0.02.

Disagree? Nah. I'm sure the marketing research department lurks TB and probably heard me and others with all the love for SX Chinese basses and just decided to get in to the action before it's too late! Hey, who wouldn't pay a few bucks more for a quality Chinese Jazz or P bass with a real honest to God Fender headstock instead of that hideous Ursa thing? :)

They must have realized that people are superficial and automatically think that Squier=Bad and Fender=Good (and they treat this "fact" as Gospel Truth)... so... they just started putting the FENDER decal on their overseas guitars... because people don't care how it sounds or where it's from as long as it says Fender and not Squier, LOL!

Pure genius. They should have been doing that all along.
