What Hat makes your bass thump?

I am almost afraid to mention that my usual wear is a Buff tubular scarf. I tend to sweat a lot when playing with my rock band and this was the only solution to keep sweat getting in my eyes.

I realize this may not be a super well-received response, but: No hats here, ever, as I'm trying to avoid being a stereotype/caricature. I put them right down there with Hawaiian Shirts, cargo shorts, jogging shoes and Crocs. I don't mind seeing a Cowboy hat in a well dressed Country Band, but not so much the faux-relic'd Bro-Country cap. Plus, my wife and daughter have told me in no uncertain terms that they had better never see me wearing one of the hats that they often see in pics of bass players (driver caps, beanies, pork pies, derbies, fedoras, etc...). More power to the few who can make it work!:D

I wear the traditional pork pie hat in black.

Yeah, I'm old and fat and bald. But the hair I do have left I wear very long (sometimes called the "skullet"). No one with any fashion sense would wear a skillet 'do so when I wear a hat, most people just assume I have a full head of hair. Little do they know that I'm really just fashion challenged. :D

I never play without a hat. I tell people that's where my talent lies, and if I take it off I can't play. I'm basically Frosty the Bassman.

This is my straw summer hat. I have essentially the same hat in felt for the cooler months.

If you're playin' fretless, shouldn't you be wearing a brimless hat?

A Balmoral or a beret, or Dhaka Topi, maybe a Fez. I can see a Garrison would work for Miles Mosley (he mostly wears a beret), but for you a Garrison (Forage) cap might not suit, but a Tam would. Rasta! Add some colour to your ensemble.

Definitely a toque in the cooler months, but you could pull off a Qaraqul.
I had a nice Pakul, got it right from the source, very warm, but it was stolen while in an airport.

So could just be me, but saw a couple of bands over the holidays and noticed something. All the bass players wore hats. Now one LG had a baseball hat on, but the bass players had some style!

One had a straw fedora, one had a English flat/driver hat and one had a Marcus Miller type hat. Now, they all were great players, hats, hair, bald or otherwise but the hats added a little somethin' somethin'.

When did you guys start wearing hats when you played? Do you have a gig hat? Does the hat help the groove?

Show me your HATS !
I only wear a hat because I'm 32, and have a nice racing stripe going up the center of my head. I wear a black ball cap or a beanie.
