Someone flew a drone over my street, and Pickles' neighbourhood.
My house is bottom left at 1:18. As you can see, this affects many, many homes in the area. We are both at ground zero. You'll see at the end of the video how the fire came over the hills in the back country.
Everything inside the walls is lost on every property. The city are planning on clearing all the slabs soon to mitigate any hazmat problems (lead, arsenic, asbestos, cadmium etc.).
230,500 acres, 15% contained, and spreading.
If you get the evacuation order, GO IMMEDIATELY. This is an unpredictable, fast, and indiscriminate fire.
My heart goes out to all in the fire zone.
My sister is on Knox, and my wife’s BFF is on Loma Vista. Both houses survived, the neighbors on Loma Vista were not so lucky. As Pickles noted, this was a storm of sparks. I have footage of my house from a Nest camera from about 3:40 in the morning (on a cloud, in an account I won't use for another year so I can't access it right now). The wind was at about 55 MPH, with reported gusts of 80 MPH. The fire is erratic, and does create its own weather patterns and winds. Embers can simply just be blown over a home, and leave it completely unscathed.Excuse the "un-educated" me, on this subject. But is it a wind shift that causes one house to catch fire and then the next house beside survive?
Also too, im pretty sure i saw pics two houses that didnt survive but the one in between them did. We just dont see this in the area i live in.

Having just been Harvey'd, I can certainly relate. Lost a lot myself. If you need anything, holler. I'm just down the road, south of Houston, TX.View attachment 2836592 Equal parts catharsis/commiseration and just trying to remember what all was in that glorious closet.
Edit: I’ve had some really nice offers of help after posting this. I’d ask anybody that wants to help, work with one of the many funds helping victims with *real* problems. We’re fine. We’re insured. We have great rental housing (which is going to get REALLY tight around here). Anyway, back to the boutique bass funeral ...

I was able to save a few and chose my 60P, 71P, black/maple Caprice, and best-ever Sadowsky metro RV5. And my smoothie. That’s it. It happens fast. Went from thinking “this is silly why am I packing” to “time to go RIGHT NOW get the kids” in about 20 minutes.
Equally painful losses in surfboards, wine, and my wedding ring.
No punchline. Sometimes bad things happen.
