What is a good email client for a band?

The questions is does it matter? Our band almost has our website complete & I want to set up an email address for the band. The contact page on the website will go to this new email, As well as any email or correspondence for potential gigs.

Different members in the band have different responsibilities to different areas, so multiple people will be logging into this email account.

So what do you think? Yahoo, Gmail, Live? what else is out there?

IMHO, Gmail is best. You also have the doc's feature which is great. When I have charts, etc to share with the band they can access them anytime.
Yahoo is terrible. Tons of spam and overladened with ads & shlocky news

Gmail is a really good service, works well serving as an IMAP account to multiple devices. All my mail gets piped through Gmail these days and has done for years.

Google Calendar is also a great tool for organising bands. Google Wave was also excellent for collaboratively working on ideas away from rehearsals (we used it for music, lyrics, artwork, arguments, everything!) but they shut it down. It was way better than any other form of communication for getting a group of people in a small democratic system to discuss stuff.

I might actually try to develop a replacement, it was that good.

You can always forward mail from Gmail to all the member's personal addresses too, so nobody needs to log in just to read mail, and you won't have worry about people deleting or archiving mail before the others see it.

You could also look into Google apps for your domain (GAFYD) to get some addresses with your domain name to work with Gmail front end.

IMO, gmail keeps mail in conversations or threads, not in a typical inbox. I find this confusing, and finding old/archived mail is difficult. Almost everyone (yahoo, msn, aim...) includes a calendar and contacts. Google adds docs and voice, but, I prefer dropbox for storing and sharing stuff vs storing docs in google. I guess it all depends on what you really want.

Totally agree. For $10 a year we get info@yourdomain dot com and I think it looks like we're a little more on top of it and trying a little harder than relying on hotmail or gmail as a host. Eventually your actual email address will show up when you need to reply to an email.

GMail or nothing.
Even if the hosting gives you email, forward that to your GMail account and setup POP for sending out from GMail. Or create al alternate account for the band and use your own GMail account and again setup forwarding.

GMail, GMail, GMail, GMail, GMail.

For $10 /month you can host a website with email. I use bandzoogle and it uses google apps which utilizes gmail. My email is [email protected]. You log into gmail just like a normal gmail account.

Domains are cheap too... all in all its definitaly worth $10 /month plus $5 /year for a good hosting site and domain w/ email.
