What is a good wattage for me?

Hello everyone, Me and my band are going on a 2 month self funded tour and currently I do not have an amp capable of delivering a good bass sound, and I don't know a good jumping point for wattage that would work. Currently I have a 15 watt(pathetic) ibanez amp.

What we think we would be playing would be smaller venues and clubs, but honestly we do not know where we will end up. So can someone recommend me something basic to get the job done?:bassist:

It depends a bit on the genre you're playing, I guess. For smaller gigs, I use my Markbass CMD121p combo. It has a DI/Line out, so you can connect to the board if needed. In a small venue/bar, the CMD121 is all I need. It delivers 300W (500W with an extra 8 Ohm cab), but watts don't tell you the whole story. Maybe the Ampeg portaflex could be a nice option?

does the band you are playing with have a PA with subs?
if yes, a good D.I. is all you need.
if no, may I suggest a genz benz shuttle 6.0 + 2x12 neox
get one used. everyone is on the streamliner kick, so a shuttle should be cheap. If the 2x12 neox cab is too pricey, look to avatar.

I traveled all over Iraq with a shuttle 6 and a neox 212T and it never quit, always sounded great, and it didn't break my back or the unit's pocketbook.

Something cheap because, from your description of the upcoming tour, you'll need the extra cash to keep from starving on the road. Serially.

Keeping that in mind, I'd keep my eyes glued to CL or other local markets for used Hartke, Peavey, etc. heads & cabs. They're usually reliable and a great buy on the second-hand market. Certainly an improvement over a 15 watt practice amp.

the army has sent me around the world and now I call japan home for the next 3 years. I am trying for hawaii next!

I second the whole used market thing. One mans junk is another man's treasure!
Pawn shops used to be potential gold mines, but I wouldnt count on them being fertile grounds anymore.
