I play a Schecter Stiletto Extreme 4. I want a 5 string so I don't have to keep changing the tuning of my bass. I love the feel of it, it's lightweight-ness, and how it looks and sounds. I don't like the strings, and I tried a 5 string version of it, and it didn't feel right. The top string was too "twangy", and it just.. wasn't quite right. It could've been just tha bass. I only got to try it once for a short amount of time and then they sold it before I could try it out again. I liked the feel of the American Fender Jazz bass best, but I'm not too fond of the look of it, and when I played a little Mastodon it sounded not right at all. I want to try it out, again.. and I MAY buy it if I have the funds, but I think regardless I'll want to build a bass in the near future. The tone of the Fender was perfect for the softer stuff I play, though. Absolutely amazing. My Schecter Stiletto Extreme 4 has a nice rounded tone that seems to do well for anything, but isn't GREAT for one thing more than any other. That's why I'm looking to hopefully get a higher quality 5 string. I may just have to stick with Schecter. I'm just looking for people's suggestions as I can't try every bass out there and I'd like to know what my options are.
