What Is the Best Volume Pedal?

I know this has been asked before, but I think it's been a while.
I've been playing for three years.
I play a Fender Jazz through an Orange Crush 100. I may get another amp soon. The only pedal I own now is a tuner.

1) What is the best volume pedal?
2) Is getting a pedal that controls gain and volume a good idea?

Lehle mono is the best if you want to drop the coin. I've been happy with Ernie Ball and the DigiTech mini for bass.

Ernie Ball’s are very well made. The VP jr 250k is a standard passive pedal where the MVP offers a boost of 20db which is geared more for guitars and costs a hundred more. Both have a tuner output which is one less cable in your chain fwiw.

The “best” is probably something you’ll find in another forum. Like one for lap or ambient guitar. But for me with bass the Dunlop mini is hard to beat for quality and price.

I've used several and the Dunlop mini has a great sweep and small footprint. I used the Ernie Ball VP Jr, active, and it was too noisy. I prefer passive all the way.

I'm not a fan of the Ernie Ball design and I prefer my volume in the middle of my chain, so I found that the Mission Engineering active volume worked the best for me.

Plenty of options: Dunlop, built like a tank, Ernie Ball, DOD Mini has really smooth action on a small footprint.

Not sure about this question. Controlling volume is up to you, if that's what you want or need for your music, than sure. Volume pedals are great for swells when doing spacey or ambient type stuff, too.

But controlling gain, I don't understand. The volume pedal will control the output of your bass, not the gain control on the amp. Maybe tell us a bit more about what you want to achieve?

I had one of the newer DOD mini volumes but it broke. Their failure rate is suuuuuuper high. Which was a bummer 'cause they look really cool.
I replaced it with the Mini Dunlop and it is fantastic.

Dunlop mini is quite good for what it is. I have one and it's quite good. The very best is the Lehle volume pedal, hands down, but it's also $300 and pretty large and heavy.

I’ve got one and it’s handy. Mine has the squeaky pivots that some complain about. In low volume settings it can be a problem but it wouldn’t be noticeable in a rock band setting.

I've always found the volume control on my bass to work well for controlling gain, different scenario of course if you want to control the final output of a pedal chain.

I have never regretted purchasing my Lehle Volume pedal. Its bulky, heavy, and expensive, but I use volume pedals all the time for my church group, and this does the job perfectly. Always recommended from me
