What is the deepest, most thumping 5 string bass?

I was just hoping for opinions. I love hearing what others think. Unfortunately money is a big factor. I have nothing against any brand whatsoever. In fact, I have always heard players hate on Peavey stuff big time, but every gig I've ever done with a Peavey player, the Peavey stuff has always been DEEP and HEAVY sounding. So I am with you. I used to play Carvin stuff and everyone totally hated it. I see Carvin is still rolling along. So it's def a matter of opinion. I feel for the Mom and Pops cuz Walmart is so freaking cheap and available. Just the way of the world. I just decided one day I was going to try a 5 string instead of tuning waaay down and I loved it. My tone has gone from very punchy and bright to really dark and thumpy. I'm digging it. If I can ever get my band outta the jam room and into the public eye, maybe I could pimp some Roscoe. I'm very glad to see that a NC based company is so respected. Makes us Tar Heels proud.

With the low-end response of the piezos at the bridge, you can get what Rick calls 'whale noises'.

5str with thump?

I love me some 5strings but I think just as important is the cab your running it through. If you dont have a cab or amp that can handle the 30hz (B frequencies), you might as well be playing a 4. Also I found weight, wood, and construction help emensly, a good B note will have nice sustain. My Warwick LX (bolt-on) great thump but the stage 1 (neck-tru) carries better.

Now you there is pricing, so what has good thump for a descent price? I have a few suggestions:
- look for a used Warwick LX - the preamp on it is awesome and will deliver assuming you have decent amp and cab.

-But if that is still to pricey... I loved my Schecter Studio 5. It is vVERY deep and beefy with great mids and highs. 6 bolts, great sustain and the honey finish is so pretty. I was able to down tune it to 'A' and it didnt get to mushy. I upgraded to the LX simply because the studio's neck was too narrow.

As for Fender, great 4 strs but I hate thier fives (too lite).

Based on Cost:
Dean Edge-5 (owned, but not recommended, I would go with a Schecter or the Fender 1st)
Schecter Studio 5
Warwick LX
Warwick Streamer I
Warwick Streamer II (if you like J pick-ups)

If you really want to rock the lows, then get a Warwick Vampyre. Thats got the F#, B, E and A. So, it goes even deeper than an open low B. I think it's also available with F#, B, E, A and D.

Another one that comes to mind is the Ibanez k5...Fieldy's signature bass. Ever listened to Korn? Lots of bass in there.

Now that you gave us the criteria.... go back to 4 string.. string it up BEAD with flats..

Ibanez EAB10.. you'll spend $250 for a good low use used one.. then $30 for flat wounds (or tape wounds) .. then $10 for a hole plug.

If you have more money.. plug a Michael Kelly 5

Thump away.

+1 to the Cort Curbows - my 6 was all I played (owned, in fact) for several years before discovering TB. If you find a good one, you'll have a very sterile but full sound across the range.

For the money, I loved my Cort. If you can find a good price on a RockBass, I like those quite a bit as well.
