What is the longest...

amount of time that You have been the SINGLE owner of a bass that You purchased NEW?

1986 Kubicki, EX-Factor. Got in '87. Still have.
1988 Spector, NS2-A. Got in '89. Still have.

1981 Ibanez Musician MC924. Bought new, still play it, though not too much for gigging. Plays and sounds awesome but it’s a heavy beast.

I built this in 1975, and still play it. The pups were custom made for me by Kent Armstrong when he lived in England. The side markers and the seahorse eye are l.e.d's. The other 3 basses, I built more recently, but I still have them.

'78 Rickenbacker 4001 in azureglo. Bought it with money from working a summer job, alongside with my dad. I was so anxious to get it that I had shipped by air, from the music store, to Tucson. But, there was no delivery to my little town so I convinced my dad to take me to Tucson. After a long day at work, he was not a happy dude to haul me to Tucson to pick it up.

With a penchant for really nice basses, I usually had to buy the early 60s Fenders and Series I Alembics used. My 1978 MM StingRay was bought new in 1980 and just recently sold. So that leaves my first new bass purchase back in Spring of 1969: a 1968 Fender Telecaster bass...which I still have. And it is so freaking outrageously good in both sound and playability!

The only basses I have ever purchased brand new from the store was a 1970's Gibson Triumph bass in 1986 that I owned all of a year and had to sell to pay to get my car fixed after an accident. And a late-1990's Squire Precision 5 String that I bought solely to put a Roland GK-B pickup on, I still have this bass because it is one of the best playing basses I have ever owned and it was < $200 new. Every bass I have owned since then has been second hand, and in pretty much mint condition, many still had the protective plastic on the pick guards and battery covered, etc. and I have saved boatloads of cash doing it that way.

1978 Gretsch Committee - only bass I ever bought new. Straight from the distributors warehouse. 40 years and counting. 2 years ago I bought a 1979 Gretsch Commitee that must have sat in the case for 37 years. It’s like brand new and of the 12 basses I have it’s the 3rd newest - 2012 j squire and a 2002 Gretsch Jet bass - all others are older than my first bass the 1978 Committee.
