As far as I can tell from the pictures, the 3rd fret would be short of an octave and the 4th would be a couple steps sharp of an octave. This wouldn't even make sense for a dulcimer.
I suppose it would be fine for practicing fingerings but the pitches would throw me way off. I even like unusual tunings and temperaments but this appears way off from the reality of useable fret spacing per scale length. Maybe someone on talk bass could explain what this thing is supposed to be doing pitch wise. I would buy it out of curiosity but I'm moving in two weeks and my funding is spoken for.

pitch wise? it doesn't plug in - it makes minimal sound, like a small, unplugged solid body bass. it's only for practicing your fingering. you can practice easily up to the 5th fret, but i found these hold so differently than a bass that it wasn't great for me. YMMV.

Yes the headstock is the tail and the first fret from the tuners is the last one.

Yeah i get that its a practice unplugged thing. It's still irritating me that the frets don't line up with pitches. I kinda want to buy it just to rip the frets out.

Because its far more fun to have a "conversation" with others. I'm not asking anyone to google anything for me. We are on talk bass. So i thought I'd ask bass players about a bass related object.

That fret closest to the bridge looks waay off to my eyes. It can't just be me, right? That thing can't be intonated correctly.
