What is your biggest "bass mistake"?

oh.. I have a good one that I 'lost' money on..
Bought a '73 Fender Jazz off ebay for $2100.. When it arrived home, and I unscrewed the pickguard, I found a hole the size of a MM pickup underneath.
Ouch..
Tried to return it, but in the end it's proven to be a great player. Recently had it fixed up a bit, tried to forget about the $1000 I lost on this deal... It feels great, it sounds great, it records well, but man... $1000 down the drain.

and edit;
Never.. ever.. sell any instrument ;) Unless you're replacing it with a better copy of itself that is. I'm so happy I never got rid of my fretless Jazz copy.. that thing sounds great; completely different from my Fender fretless, but great in its own right. So yeah. Do not sell. Anything. :)

Many a tale of woe starts with this one.

My first wife was VERY unmusical, and that's all I'll say. Fixed that. My second, and current, wife is a terrific singer and a great partner.

When someone who 'loves' you attempts to stifle your creativity, DO NOT GO WILLINGLY! It's bad medicine.

Wow. Naturally, I can't top that, but I can tell you that I now feel a whole lot better about having let my white and black one go for $400 a few years ago.

my biggest bass mistake was being to eager to order a custom bass from an "affordable" custom bass maker (if you need to know PM me, i'm not posting his name)... i spent too much money on great wood, killer hardware and electronics, but on an absolutely awful bass. Don't get me wrong, the guy know how to work with wood. i'll give him that much. Bass building? not so much.

I loke to read such stories, which makes me open my eyes and thank God for life :D (and basses) :bassist:

Paying a lot for a bass that you hated. Roscoe LG2005. Got it out of the box, played for thirty minutes. Put it right back in the box and posted it to the classifieds they very day i got it. Luckily I traded it immediately.

i didn't sell my 1970 p bass. i bought it for $100 (probably too much considering the shape it was in) my pop paid for it to be rewired, refinished, etc. it was beautiful lpb w/matching headstock. wonder where that bass is... i've owned other p's and j's that were older, maybe cooler, but i really wish i had that one back.

i also seriously regret selling my mesa d-180. and all of those 60's p's and j's now that i think about it.

Spending stupid money on a "boutique" artist series bass, never again! I learnt the hard way that because something is very expensive dosent mean it's actually Any good. Also selling my old hohner jack bass, man I loved that bass

Trading drums and cash for a Gibson Grabber and a used Ampeg B-15 at age 13 in 1974- then letting a drum store sell them on consignment so I could get back into drums, which I did for a few years.

Then breaking both ankles 20 years later and getting back into bass, realizing what I had. Those flip top Ampegs are rare and expensive tone machines. Rats.

Completely clean for over 18 years. Hell, I even recovered from having my intestines rebuilt with zero painkillers. I requested being removed from the morphine drip, in fact, the morning after the 7.5 hour ordeal.

i second that. couldnt wait to own a Ric, soon i personally found out, for me, it was greater owning one than playing one, the novelty of showing it to my friends wore off, i still would love to have one but geesh an expensive non necessity in my world..... even Geddy dont play a Ric anymore (go figure)!!
