Well, if the unsigned band scene is anything to go by, then you're right - we get treated like peons by venues and promoters regardless of how good or organised we are.

Yeah, taxes are high, but so's the standard of living, and we have a very good health service! I'm not saying it's any better in general - the people in the USA seem a lot happier. We love to complain, but it's not a bad place to live really.


I think the "big" bands in the UK treat themselves right... and make sure they aren't bullied out of the perks. Iron Maiden being a perfect example - one of the biggest bands in the world, and certainly one of the richest, still going after all these years, and they tell the venues how it is, not the other way around!

yes, exactly! you have to demand it, it's not a given...
maybe that's why up and commers have a chip on their shoulder...
my comment about the taxes/work permits is in reference to not being a native of the country, if you are on the outside those fees really hit hard(especially as weak as the dollar has been!). our cd's were selling for 18 pounds in the end, collectors label. luckily they did itunes too...

@rise of the wooten: it definitely is dreamy and fun, that pic is when it is at its' best...there's lots of places i've been (and will be) that are not nearly as nice, that's for sure. and with economics, things are changing rapidly....the industry is shrinking for people in my position.
maybe my day job next year will be janitor....
