I've lusted after just about every brand out there at one point or another. Not quite sure if if qualifies as a brand, but ever since I got my first Warmoth, that is the bees knees for me.

Fender and musicman are pretty much on par with me.
Musicman make amazing instruments, build-wise, sound-wise and aesthetics-wise. However if i had to choose one, id probably go with fender, just because a p or j will fit into pretty much every situation, genre, venue, image and recording you could think of

I love my stingray, just feels so much more solid than any other bass i've played; sounds killer to boot
I'm a Fender guy and also as of this past Saturday, Tim Sunde turned me into a Peavey guy. Really great gear for a really great price. And solid as a blasted tank!
I really can't answer that exactly because every bass is different, even when it's built by the same builder. However, I can say that, for the most part, I've always liked Lakland basses for their necks and playability. My Valenti J5 is a keeper since it was so well built and easy to play. I'm also quite fond of Skjold basses since the ones I've played have left me with a hole in my heart only a Skjold could fill. Their B strings and neck profiles are amazing.
