What is your favorite string that is no longer made?

A lot of Sam Ash stores still have a few sets.

I'll have to check. Every place I've tried whose website listed them in stock, upon inquiry, told me their website was in error, said they'd update it, and apologized. I don't doubt that individual Sam Ash stores might have a few, though.

The three in my surrounding area all have like six, really old sets in banged up and ripped boxes. The inner pouch is intact though, so they're fine.

I wish they weren't coated. I hate the feel of coated strings. But as far as I know they have to be otherwise the copper plating would rust.

I used to use them back in the eighties before they had coating, they turned green pretty fast, but I loved the tone!

I like the old Snarling Dogs stainless rounds. They had a Billy Sheehan signature set that was awesome. Been out of production for years.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, i had what i thought to be Dean Markley ground wounds, back in the 70's.
They were on a early 70's Precision.

They were fanatastic, if i'm remembering the maker correctly.

The original Fender 7250 strings, not the current ones. I bought several sets when they switched manufacturers and went through what I had. I now use GHS Pressurewounds, but still miss them.

I think they came out during the time that Trace was distributed by Kaman, a CT based company. Could be an American manufacturer. I know two guys that might know where they were made - a former Kaman guy, and Doug Wimbish, who was an endorsee of the strings for a while, as well as the amps for a much longer term (he's actually still using them). He went back to Rotosound.

Old D'Addario steel half rounds. I emailed them a while back asking and an employee sent me a set for free from his own personal stash at home. Best strings I've ever played and I accidentally left them on a bass I sold.

I liked the original nickel ones even better, but I'd gladly take the first gen steel ones over any of the other versions that have come since.

I like the new(ish) D'Addario version of this set well enough. The .110 taperwound E is among the very best sounding roundwound E string ever made. Just crazy killer good. I would put this string in place of the .107 E in the EXL170BT set.

Round-core too I believe.
