what is your favourite bass?

My favourite I don't have any more was an old Squier Silver Series Jazz Bass that had been badly abused, and one of my friends asked if he could rebuild it for a bit of coursework he was doing; so the layers of car paint were taken off down to the wood and it was given a tung oil finish, had a set of Seymour Duncans put in with a blend pot, volume and tone control, a heavy mass bridge, a full on rebuild with basically only the neck, body and control plate being original. Some so-and-so lifted it after a gig ignoring the MIM Precision and the Stingray next to it.

As for something I've wanted to play, not worked that one out fully yet!

Long since realized the folly of wanting a bass based only on pictures and strangers' opinions. Favourite bass that I've would be one I own, tends to be whichever one I'm playing at the time. Haven't encountered anything better than the ones I currently have. In my "top tier," can't pick one over the others.

My favorite is my 2011 MIA Fender Jazz Deluxe. My wife bought it for me a couple of years ago. This year she bought me a set of Lindy Fralin pickups and I converted the bass to passive. The bass is wine red and came with a black pickguard. This Christmas my wife bought a white pearl pickguard for it and the bass looks much better now. I love the way the bass sounds, plays and looks and the fact that it was a gift from my wife.

I also have some 1970s and early 1980s Fenders, 2 Spectors and 2 Alembics that I enjoy playing.
