American Deluxe P Bass. I tried a brand new one and sold it. Low balled this one on eBay and won it. Feels much better that way.

Bikes are still my #1 passion. Da Bass is catching up quickly though. I find myself trolling craigslist thinking "Hummm, I probably need a 'fretted' electric too. You know, for practice. Maybe just a cheap one" etc...
My wife of 20 years escaped a communist country on a rickety boat as a kid and came to this country with $2 in her pocket. She is uniquely capable of (and always willing to) put any of my "must have" gear acquisitions into perspective.

a new reel of tape and a box of tubes to try out in my preamps and compressors.

I've tried and tried to break mine of that habit, but they ain't gonna budge it seems.

I think I'm done buying and trading for a while. I've been on a tear this last year, but I think finally getting the tone I've been after has made it a lot easier.

I've been woefully negligent in upkeep on my '85 Goldwing over the last year. We hardly rode at all. Now, it's going to require some serious maintenance, and Wifey already said she wants to ride more this year. Plus, we've decided to put up a new building this year for our passion hobbies that require space; my home studio and her sewing room. I bought a double bass just before Xmas, and she was none too happy about that.
I guess the main killers for me are (in no particular order):
- I already have all the bass equipment I really want
- Other instruments (I play 12)
- Guns
- Motorcycle
- Expensive honey-dos
- We'll need a new tractor soon
- Replacing and/or repairing vehicles my stepson insists on crashing (he's wrecked two in less than a year)
This list could go on and on ...

My parents. Also, my birthday coming up and also the fact I've just bought a bass means I have to have a cool down period before buying anything even as small as a pedal!

Playing an uninspired bass. This past Saturday I sat down with a Fender American Standard P-bass. Natural, maple neck, very pretty. Played it and it did nothing for me. Strung with rounds through a Markbass it just had a generic bass sound. Went home took out my '78 P-bass, natural with a rosewood board, flats, fired up the old B-15. Nothing better. Maybe there's something out there, but it would have to be really special, so for now the GAS is gone. Keep the groove.
