What is your opinion of Musician's Friend online store

I purchased two GK MBE212 cabinets from them just recently and one of the cabinets had the grille damaged. Looked like something fell into the side of the box in the UPS truck.

I called them up to return it for an exchange. They said no problem until the person I'm talking with at MF says oh-oh, they are back ordered. The very polite person puts me on hold. She comes back on and says, " would you accept a partial refund of $92?" Of course!!! They credited my CC promptly. I took the grille off, put it between two sheets of plywood and straightened the aluminum grill, it looks good as new. AAAAA+ to MF for their customer service!!!

I am a happy customer.

For any type of research, being images, reviews, pricing and what not I always end up in that website. Agree on how user friendly it is, like it better over the Guitar Center site too.

Haven't done any purchases since their "international shipping" is limited to Canada :bawl:

Great prices and product catalog!

How is too friendly a bad thing?

It can be a little annoying receiving three phone calls and voice messages from a company just to verify my order, notify me that it has with me shipped, and verify that it arrived intact. The first time I bought from them I thought it was cool. The second time I bought from them the honeymoon phase had worn off. And the third time it just seemed like they were a desperate ex girlfriend trying to keep me around.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I'm sure it's not a common one, either.

I used to loathe MF due to wanting to play the instrument before I bought. However, I don't really have time to trek all over God's creation for instruments anymore. Besides, most places have closed or stock absolute garbage.

Recently I bought a "used" axe bass and Line6 G50 wireless. I was amazed, because both items showed up in brand new condition. I was blown away. Plus I saved a ton of dough, because I not only bought these used, but MF gave me another 10% off. Cha ching!

Today, I saw that a vendor on ebay (a bass store in AZ) had a Punisher II bass for $454 shipped. It lacked a return policy, so I called MF to see if they could match the price. They looked over the website, the salesman talked with his supervisor, and now I will save $106 off of a $560 bass. I would love to hate on them, but I have never had any bad transactions with them.

Dude! I know. I bought a strap from SW, and they kept calling me to see if I needed anything else. I appreciate their effort, but they don't have the stock or sales like MF.

Customer service is excellent. I ordered an Ibanez Gig bag and the thing broke the first time I opened it. I called them and asked me to send it to them for a refund. I went to the shipper and they wanted me to pay a LOT for shipping charges. I called in and the cust. service rep told me that they were going to send me another gig bag, same value for free without having to send back the defective one., so I ordered a road runner and A few days later I got it.

I would buy from them again! :hyper:

So I was looking forever for a good deal on that Gene Simmons Punisher. A store in AZ who had an auction on Ebay, had a Punisher for auction at $454, shipped with NO return policy.
I call Musician's Friend and tell them the story, and ask if they can price match the store on Ebay. Because this store is an actual brick and mortar store, Musician's Friend honored the sale. I also received a $50 gift card, because of some promotion they had! In short, I saved $106 off of the original $560 asking price, had it shipped free, got a 45 day return policy, and received a free $50 Musician's Friend gift card! You can't beat that!

I've read that page before but the products that are available for international shipping (apart from Canada) are very limited.

This is the message I get most of the time:

Muchas gracias anyway ChBaker801 :smug:

I'm sorry that there aren't more brands we can ship to you at this time. We're constantly working to expand our international shipping options, it's just a matter of getting the vendors to agree to us shipping their products internationally.

MF is the 1st place I go when I'm looking for something. There are no good music stores locally and the nearest Guitar center is over an hour away. I have made a number of purchases from Musicians Friend over the last few years and everything has been excellent. Never a problem and when I've had questions they were quick to get me an answer. They are simply the best online retailer I've dealt with in any business. I do not hesitate to use these guys.

Just wanted experiences or opinions of this online retailer. Recently I made two separate purchases from them and was quite pleased.
I used to buy a lot of gear from them -- hundreds of orders, many thousands of dollars. I no longer do.

Shipping is uniformly the slowest off the mark in the industry. It may take three business days to get the thing into UPS's hands.

This was even before Mitt Romney's Bain Capital Holdings bought Guitar Center, Inc., which owns MF, M123, etc.

Everyone I knew who worked for a Bain-acquired company told me that was bad news for customers and workers.

It was.

Service has drastically deteriorated, prices have gone up, discounts have gone down, sales and blowouts have drastically become fewer and less impressive, they've screwed up and made themselves subject to collecting California sales tax, etc.

Worst is their new policy of free shipping on nearly everything, which means they dilute their profitability by shipping small orders at (or near) a loss rather than by giving lower prices and big sales on the major items.

They've lost ~95% of my business in the past few years. :hmm:
