After more than a decade of playing nothing but warwicks (corvette FNA 5, corvette standard 5, thumb bolt 5, and thumb nt 5) I am now a conklin guy. I have a fretted gt7 and am going to put an aguilar 3 band pre in it and get rid of the blend pot I never use.
When I can afford it I plan on getting a custom conklin built to look somewhat like my first bass which was a black p bass with a pearl white pickgaurd. Kinda similar to the jean baudin signature but totally different woods for the neck because I just don't like all that maple.

I have been playing bass since I first picked one up in 1963/1964 when my brother and I started our own band. I already played guitar but the band needed a bass player, so I am self taught on the bass. I owned a few basses during the 1960's; a Danelectro 4 string then I went to a St. George (Japanese made I think. In 1966 I bought a Hagstrom bass because it had such a thin neck. Sold that and my 66 Fender Bassman piggyback amp in 1970 when the band folded,

In 1973 I went out and bought a used Vox bass and I still have it along with a Fender Bassman 10 amp which I also still own.

For rock I use the 1968 Vox Sidewinder IV v272 four string bass. It has a great classic rock sound. I have owned this bass since 1973, it has a very thin fast neck. It did take some getting used too because of the neck but once you get used to that it is very easy to play. I paid $195 for it in 1973 at Durdel's music store in Toledo, Ohio.

I also own a five string Ibanez SR505 bass that I have owed since December 2006 and I prefer to use it for Gospel music traditional and contemporary Christian music. I use it every Sunday when I play in the church band at the church I attend regularly in Knoxville, TN.

I currently own just a single bass, an Ibanez ATK200 4-string. Decent little bass for the money, I'd hang on to it even if I got something much fancier/more expensive tomorrow. The Soundgear line seems to have many more models, but the few of those I have tried (including a premium model) - meh - they just feel small & wimpy to me. Especially the necks, but even the bodies...while I appreciate the LOOK of those ergonomic designs, I just don't dig the feel. I seem to prefer a big, rounded slab of a body, ie., the ATK (I owned a 6-string Ibanez BTB prior to this bass and liked it for the same reasons I like the ATK.):bassist:

I'm mainly an upright player, but I've been playing a Dean stick bass for several years too. Just recently I decided I should get a bass guitar and found a Squire Showmaster MB4 so cheap I actually gave the poor guy an extra $5 for it (no, it wasn't hot). I need to do a fret job on it but after spending a lot of time with neck adjustments and intonation and a new set of round-wounds (the strings cost more than the bass,LOL) it plays pretty well as is.

I added this fretless AJ5 to my arsenal yesterday:

I've got a real wide range of basses right now..

4 String Fretted ( Geddy Jazz, 2 x Ibanez Roadster, Washburn B20, Epi Thunderbird, Takamine Acoustic, Retrovibe Vantage... think JazzenBacker )
4 String Fretless ( MIM Jazz with hipshot D )
8 String Fretted ( Dean Edge )
8 String Fretless ( Brice )
12 String Fretted ( Dean Rhapsody )

The Brice 8 string fretless is a real handful. The difference in finger angle when pressing on the paired strings REALLY makes a difference. It's the hardest bass to play. I want to make an 8 or 12 string Thunderbird now.. I am having a blast playing the TBird and I really like 8-12 string sounds.. Probably buy a kit body or possibly cut my own and buy a used 8-12 string and sacrafice the neck.
