What kind of strings do you use?

I've almost always used Rotosound Swingbass SM66's (100s) almost since day one (save for the first set I owned- a Labella Flats).

I had a brief flirtation with Dean Markley Blue Steels (105s) during my "I wanna play sound like Justin Chancellor" phase some years ago).

The Rotosounds get the tone I'm looking for without fail.

Fender flatwounds, special light (.040-.100), for everything.

Honourable mention to Rotosound SM55 pressure wounds, my previous go-to strings.

For classic stuff eg pop, country, R&B (no slapping or tapping) and after some experimentation on my two EB's:

- Fender P-bass (Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounders): Fender 9050 Light Flats or GHS 3025 Light Precision Flats.
- Squier Vintage Modified Jazz with stock pickups: Ernie Ball Group 3 flats.

All three sets are smooth and easy on the fingers. They also provide a solid fundamental note without feeling like cables.

Precision with D'Addario Chromes
Precision with Jazz Pickups with old, worn-in set of GHS Boomers - may get restrung with Chromes
Fretless with EB Regular Slinky SS
Am. Std. Jaguar Bass with NPS Fender 7250M
ABG with D'Addario Tapewounds
Warmoth Jazz with NPS Fender 7250M - may be going back to EB Regular Slinky as the 7250M seem a little uneven in volume on this bass.

Gigging set up would be:
Precision with NPS Fender 7250M
Jaguar with NPS Fender 7250
Precision with D'Addario Chromes
Precision with Jazz Pickups with Chromes
(Any two, depending on mood/gig)

I finally found my set!
35" tuned ADGC (not metal !!), .160 .115 .90 .70. GHS boomers + Daddario .160. I opted for daddario balanced but couldnt find it.

The Boomers on my P are still going strong after two and a half months. Meaty low-mid punch with grunt and grind. Not for zing lovers.

As of today, my J is wearing the GHS Round Core Boomers (45-65-85-105) to go head-to-head with their hex-core sibling. Boomers vs. Boomers.

Time for another update...

Verdict on Boomers vs. Boomers: My personal preference is for the Round Core Boomers, so they will stay on my J till they're ready to be retired.

And here are the freshly-installed GHS Balanced Nickels (4L-NB, 40-101) on my P.

RED and GREEN - I think I'm ready for Christmas now!

I use D'Addario NYXL 45130 on all three of my working basses(two fretted and a fretless), and D'Addario Flatwound ECB82 on my old Tortlicious Pbass. I'm crazy about the NYXLs.

I'm still with Fodera Nickel, they sound and feel too good, and also last a long time, so I stick with them. But I did go to the ultra-light gauge 40-55-75-95-120 and feel wonderful.

My favorite string right now is Ernie ball super slinky's in the past I have used Flats and fender tapewounds. I have the super slinky's on a Sub Ray four. Tapewounds we're on a 76 precision for a three-piece blues band

Dedicated DR High beams for the past 14 years. Started drop tuning to drop A# like 10 years ago on one of my 4 string basses, so I started buying 5 string sets of DR HBs and just using biggest 4. Still happy and loved everything but the cost. Almost 30 dollars a set. I found these for cheap at Sweetwater Dunlop DBS60120 Stainless Steel Extra Heavy Drop Bass Strings. Half the price and almost as good as the DRs. Worth it for the cost in my opinion.

Bought my first fretless a few months ago. Still experimenting with some flat wounds, bought d'addario medium ECB82. They sound nice. Feel like they have waaayy too much tension though
