What kind of strings do you use?

Too bad we can't change our original selections on the poll. I've changed strings since then(as well as basses). I was running Fender 7150's on a Washburn T25. I'm now using D'addario Chromes on a USA Fender Precision Deluxe. Absolutely loving the flatwounds. The Chromes are fairly bright for a flatwound and I can get a very nice slap/pop sound out of them by adjusting the mids and highs on the three band EQ.

Yeah....I'm a string whore. Just changed them again. Currently running Rotosound Nexus black coated roundwounds. Love them!....for now.

I Prefer D,adario's on my Les Paul Bass but my old preferences when I playied guitar were Ernie Ball reg slinkies so i think i may be getting a new pair to try them out anyone know the pros and cons of them?

I use roundwounds. I've been playing for about 8 years and have recently been turn onto DR strings. Seriously, try them. You will not switch back.

Have always used roundwound strings. Tried several different brands, different gauges, cheap strings, expensive brands. Today I tried flatwounds on my jazz bass for the first time ever. I will not be using roundwounds anymore. They are Ernie ball flats. The only reason I got em is they were the cheapest flats the store had. They are just awesome. So glad I tried flats.

Ernie ball rounds on my main bass the squier vm p bass but heavily modded... Ernie ball rounds on my sx j bass... dean markley bluesteels on my mim p/j jazz bass it was originally a mim fender jazz. and ghs bright flats on my 89 p bass.

in over 25 years of frequent use (i usually buy them one out of 3 times overall between 10 diffewrent basses) I have never once been let down or dissapointed by ernie ball slinkys. I can say the same about DR , labella, ghs and Dean markly as wel
i'br been pretty lucky, the only strings that have really let me down are D'addario Xl's (hate them) though their flatwound & half round are nice.
I've bought rotosounds 4 times & broke strings in every pack
(I can honestly say that in 25 + years of playing i've broken less than 20 strings therefore 4 out of 20 is a high percentage)
and Vinci Bobcats.

the best "cheap" strings are the Hartke ones those they are really Labellas from what I heard

I also hate anything Bronze or Taperwound but that's just an issue of personal taste.

I use Ernie Ball hybrids on my P bass and my SBMM. But...When i got my Warwick Corvette a few years ago, I just loved the nickel Warwick strings that I put on back then. They sounded fantastic on it, so I have continued to get them for the Warwick alone.

Following my intuition, I just installed daddario half rounds on my warwick fretless bass. No way I'm switching to anything else now I want to buy 100 sets of half rounds, they are amazing.

P bass and carvin bass usually get prosteels and occasionaly rotosounds but

D'ADDARIO FTW

S.I.T. Nickel Wounds have now become my go-to strings for rock gigs. I use their 50-105 4-string pack and order a 120 B string for my Custom 5-string P bass. Sounds great and
not too flexible, yet not too stiff, either. Nice growl!

I love Rotosound swingbass on my Jazz bass. I've had the same set on the same bass for nearly 8 years now and they still tune well. I love that worn in sound.

I have found that different strings are better for different basses and depending on the sound you are looking for. I like nickel-wound D'Addarios a lot and they are not too pricey which is a plus. I played Stainless Steel Rotosounds RS66(?) for years, but the nickel-wound strings seem to last longer. I recently kicked a set of stainless DR Lo-Riders in only a few weeks which is really fast for me. They sounded great for a few shows and then they were totally dead and dark which is not the tone I need these days. On the other hand I had a set of Fodera strings on another bass that stayed bright for about a year. I was not so sure about them at first, but they sounded great on for recording. Then I noticed they were great for soloing too!

Got a set of Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Bass strings last week. They are incredible!

Half the finger pressure gives the same volume.

Silky smooth - no sliding noise at all (with Fast Fret applied)!

Beautiful, consistent tone throughout the set. Great B string!

I doubt I will ever buy another brand - just makes playing really ejoyable.

Anyone else with thoughts on Elixrs? I bought a P-Bass with a set on it and I think I actually really like them... But they are really expensive in comparison to D-Addario or DR or even Rotosound.
