What makes it your bass?

Because I did things to it. Unspeakable things. But I've had it for over 40 years now, and the Statute of Vintage Preservation ended. Besides - it's better now. Plus it's not going anywhere. Sheesh, I may even be buried with it!

This one was red until my first daughter was born and I had anxiety to burn off:

This one has seen a lot of gigs before I gravitated to 5s:

and this one is 30 years old but just breaking in, though some knob hammered initials in the body:

Other than sweat, finger grease and flecks of skin, I've got a dent in the neck of my p bass from when a band mate tossed me an Old Style and I missed the catch circa 1986.

That's the start of a great story, but it needs....more. You were playing the biggest gig of your life and/or you met your wife (or the hottest girlfriend you ever had) when she bandaged the wound that the beer made when it hit you in the head. Give us...more.....

Um... cuz I built it for myself? :eyebrow:

Unless of course, we're gonna go into a production one. My last one of those remaining here is this 89 Ray 5:

It's mine because I love it and won't get rid of it. There's a chip on it that was caused by a lighter being thrown at me at band practice once. I wouldn't say that's why I love it, but that makes it unique I guess. Oh, and it's 9 lbs, which is enviable for one of these beauties.

Guessing it wasn't a Bic lighter, then.

Had a drummer hurl his cowbell at me in practice. Being silly, though, not trying to hurt me. I side-stepped, but it put a dimple in the headstock of my white '76 Thunderbird, which until that point had no marks on it. He later became a butcher at Safeway. How fitting.
