What Overdrive pedals are you using?

Tell me more about your setup: what bass and amp are you using? Also what settings on the EP Booster? Is it adding any gain or just the EP booster's "sweetness?"

Well, I'm actually not running that setup anymore, but I can reconstruct mentally :)

Bass is one of:
-P with a T-bird pickup added in the bridge position and a Quarter Pounder as the P pickup, and a Tonestyler replacing the normal tone pot
-G&L L2K, using neck pickup

Amp is a Markbass 12" combo, set with the low mids notched out a bit, and with the VLE (vintage loudspeaker emulator) set about 8:30 to smooth out the top. I don't care for the pre-amp that much, so I went directly into the effects return.

Typically ran the EP Booster at about 11:00 or so, so there was some added gain, though I also needed the hotter signal since I was going into the effects return. I had the internal treble boost set to off.

Awesome stuff! Here is what I'm up to: I am trying to recreate Peter Hook's Hiwatt tone for a Joy Division/early New Order covers band. I even got a Shergold bass which has a very unique sound (although mine's a 4 string and his was a 6). I will be running a Kustom KXB-500 head into a Hathor 1203, that cab sounds great with overdrive. I will try the effects return as an option although the pre in this amp is pretty neutral sounding. I have an Ultimate Drive on the way and already have an EP Booster. Should be fun, thanks for sharing your settings!!

I use a Mooer Green mile sometimes. It takes some of that really low bass out of my signal. If you like brighter sounds on your bass, it's a good choice. It's very mild if you want it to be.

I've just went to a VT Bass v2, think I like it better than the above pair. More EQ and voicing options on tap in one box

I've currently got three overdrives on my board. My clean OD/boost with just a tiny bit of hair is the Pork Loin (I absofreakinlutely love this pedal), then a Darkglass VMT, and then a EHX Bass Soul Food (I'm pretty sure the BSF has a defective blend pot but it gives me a pretty cool breakup that pretty much nails the tone on Bounty Hunter by Molly Hatchet (just as a reference)). So, Pork Loin>VMT>Bass Soul Food. Sometimes I stack these pedals and I have quite a few tonal options.

My first pedal was a Tech 21 BDDI that I keep as a backup. I haven't played it in a while but I think I'm going to mess around with it again soon.

Started off with experimenting with a few from tried and tested other celebrity's... Marshall guvnor, tubescreamer with mod, turbo rat... All of them sucked the low too much for me so ended up with PD7 which can bring in a heap of low boost... Only thing is now looking to replicate our albums "blended" tone ( was recorded bi amped with a clean and dirty tone) and looking at the source audio OFD... Did look at the dark glass stuff but not really liking it enough.

Do also have a lot of fuzzes but never use them ( supercollider, some Devi ever stuff, mastotron and a super tentacle love fuzz )

Hopefully the OFD gets me all I need!

The endles OD quest...
Like most guys overhere, I've been on this endless quest for the right OD. I've had an MXR overdrive, but eventualy passed it on because I couldn't quite get the sound I was searching from that pedal. After that I got the American Sound because it was cheap and because I was aiming to get a B3K and didn't have the money and needed an OD to play. Great sounding pedal for its price, good on low OD and High gain distortion as well. I traded it for something else but will eventually return to it someday. Had a RAT clone as well. Used it for high gain distortion but also liked it as a low OD pedal.
I then got a Beta OD. I love the pedal, it's super creammy and great for low OD. This one is staying in my board for now.
I also have the SA Multiwave Bass Distortion. I like it for the synth sounds but it also makes a really nice OD that's quite usable.
I've just got a DOD Gunslinger. Still haven't tried it on but have high expectations for it.
A Ss/Bs Mini is on its way. Also have high expectations for this one.
I think that with the Beta, the Gunslinger and the Mini I'll have all my OD needs covered for now (low, medium and high gain), but still need to ry these with diferent settings and basses.

I love the sound of the SGFX Beta ... but I've currently got a Mooer mini pedalboard with TC mini pedals and the Beta won't fit. Is there something similar in sound to the Beta in a mini pedal?
Will the TC mini spark do that (without affecting the overall volume)?
Thanks

I recently demoed the Wampler Low Blow, DarkGlass B3K and VMT. The VMT was returned and I kept the other two.

The VMT was just too "clean". I'm not into crazy overdrive, just to color the tone a bit. The Wampler I set a little higher on the drive and the B3K I set a little lower, probably 50% on the Low Blow and about 30% on the B3K.... both pedals sound great when you stack them with an octave, chorus or envelope filter... soo many pedals... you have to try them out to decide for yourself as all the comments are great to pick a few if you're lost... but what you decide to keep can only come from you actually playing them through your gear :)

Tech 21 VT Bass, I use this mainly for the speaker simulation function when plugged straight into the PA, but from time to time I do use it for grind. My ODs are the Darkglass VMT and Way Huge Pork Loin. The VMT Era knob is set at about 9 o'clock for a more vintage sound, whereas I use the Pork Loin when I need a more bluesy grind.

I recently got the One Control Hooker's Green Bassmachine. VMT and Pork Loin are now having a well deserved rest.

went into my closet and took out a whole bunch of pedals that have been in there for years, in their boxes. Going through every one of them and stacking them....so many combinations. Had a BDDI that was put away more than 10 years ago, paired it with the Xotic EP and found that they go together well...surprised to say the least....as I remember not liking the BDDI all that much for some reason but the EP seems to wake it up somehow.

i've got a hao sole pressure a few days ago and instantly fell in love with it,its a very transparent od,perfect for an always on use.
i dont like to stack od into fuzz cause i think it just became a harsh mess but this one stacks very well with my tomkat bender fuzz.
have to say goodbye to my pork loin...
