Double Bass What pickup is Chris Wood playing in this pic?

TBers,

I was lucky enough to be second row to Chris Wood at the 2018 River Park concert in Hillsborough, NC. I took these pictures. What is that round pickup below the bridge?

I think he's also playing a Realist.

BTW, his tone was out of this world. His Hofner tone was just as fine as the upright. Run to see them on tour this summer and fall!

Hey Joe! Good to see another NC bass player here. Yeah Chris is the man! What he does with a double bass and a Hofner bass is insane. I saw the at the Red Hat in Raleigh around that same time. (Or maybe it was the year before.)

Anyway, @40Hz is right. Thise guys over in the double bass section talk pickups a lot. They should he able to fix you up.

Thanks @40Hz and @two fingers! I'll move the thread!

And thank you too. I wasn't familiar with the Wood Brothers. So I just hopped over to YouTube for a quick recon listen. And that is one fine band and some excellent bass playing. And they're on vinyl!

Thx for spotting me such a fine group. I was hoping for something new to listen to. And these gents look like they'll fit the bill. I just ordered their live LP. :)

The Lifeline goes under the adjuster; the copper pickup goes under the foot of the bridge. He may be using/blending the pickups for onstage monitoring through the amp or sending one through effects while having a clean signal from the other and then sending the mic to FOH.

There's no reason for a double bass bridge to be crooked; all it would do is make it harder to play in tune, as the mensure would be different on each string.

They're awesome! :) You might have run across Chris Wood without his brother, as the bassist for Medeski Martin and Wood? I I love both bands for different reasons, and I love Chris' playing in both.

You've prolly heard him before in his better known group, Medeski, Martin and Wood.

Nope. He's completely new to me. (Something that doesn't happen too often.) And thanks to you both for mentioning Medeski, Martin and Wood.

So ok. Just ordered Out Louder and Lets Go Everywhere. Got part of my next "focused listening session" (a Sunday ritual of mine) all set to go since Amazon Prime lets me stream both in the meantime.

Really like his tone and style on Höfner bass. Reminds me a little bit of Chris Brubeck's vibe in certain places.

Bon! Merci. :)

You're welcome! Their collaborations with John Scofield are some of my favorite music of all time. Enjoy!
