What pushes more air...?

Manufacturers should measure cabinets with a SPL meter across fequencies, from 1w up through burnout. Better them than the consumer.

You'd see that after so much power goes in the bass just doesn't get any louder.

At least they should do MAX SPL and power needed to reach MAX SPL.

And of course include polar charts for dispersion.

+1 on this. You're absolutely right, but amp manufacturers would not do this because of that whole sales thing - the fine art of smoke, mirrors, and BS. Pay no attention to the mouse behind the curtain. NARF!
 
i suppose if you just want to "push air", a 15"subwoofer with
an x-max of +/- 30mm can push lots of air . loaded into a
Jensen Imperial horn , driven by a big Crown or QSC ,
you'd be creating a mini-gale indeed .

i doubt it would sound good for Bass guitar purposes...
(unless it were accompanied by several cabs of 10" x-d over
speakers )

and would be a bitch to gig with without Lou Ferrigno and/or
a forklift truck.
 
I'd like manufacturers to replace their usual speaker configuration and power centric naming/marketing approach with one that's focused on volume displacement. It's a simple number in cubic centimetres and is so much more useful than all the other stuff when you play bass.
+1. An off used phrase to describe the capabilities of low frequency speakers is There's no replacement for displacement. But where finding out the displacement of electric bass cabs is concerned it's like playing at Where's Waldo?
