What rack are you using??

For the longest time (when I carted my own stage gear), I used an 8-space rack made by Wilson Cases. It's framed in aluminum railings just like most, but instead of plywood walls, it's comprised of a very thin corrugated plastic (think of cardboard). It proved to be incredibly strong and durable. It also proved to be VERY light compared to others I've used. I got mine in a purdy red color. lol.

Currently, my gear stays on a band truck that our roadies deal with. I do not trust them anywhere near as much as I trust myself, so now my stuff lives in an 8-space shockproof rack. I honestly don't even know what kind it is. I scored it off the 'bay, and it's VERY sturdy and well built.

I use Gator and SKB generally ... but recently bought some STAGG rackcases. I suppose if I buy anything STAGG they would be inert objects that aren't suppose to make a musical noise, e.g. replacement clamps, floor tom legs etc.

The Staggs are lighter than the Gators and the also make them with wheels and a pull handle. My Gator 6U is a true 6U with a retractable handle and wheels. My STAGG "4U" with wheels and a handle is actually really only 3 and a bit U, on account of the retractable handle and wheels. I suppose you could fit a tuner and achieve 4U but hey.... it's a STAGG design.

Anyone use a rack case with wheels?

Mine has wheels... though I forget the name of the company that made it for me.

I was talking with a friend in the light business (show lighting) and he said that the latches SKB uses are ****. They just don't hold up. I'd have to agree with him because for the past two weeks I've been dealing with SKB's loaded with wireless receivers and the covers pop right off. :rollno:

For the past 5 years or so I've kept my GK2001 and Furman power conditioner in a Road Ready 6u case. It's a pretty typical rack: wood and metal, heavy as heck, pretty much unbreakable. I'd recommend it if you're gonna be lugging your gear any kind of distance, but then again they are expensive. Mine retailed at around $270 but i got it at cost, which was nice. Not sure what they go for now.

At the time I was steered away from the plastic SKB and Gator type cases after being told they have a tendency to slip off the tops of cabinets, particularly if you're playing loud and with the bass cranked. I have no idea if that's true, but I was spending 2000 on my amp and cab (again, at cost) so i figured i might as well spring for the best rack i could afford. Combined with the weight of the GK it's pretty damn heavy, but at least it's safe.

I just ordered a GK2001RB and a 4 space Road Ready to go with it. The SKB stuff just never seemed as durable to me (though I'm sure it's fine for most applications). All of the Gator stuff I've seen has been real crap.

I have a couple of 6 space Anvil's for my DB728's which are solid, as well as a 14 space ATA from Rock Hard which is also solid, though I wouldn't buy from them again. Also have an Anvil AFX 4 space which isn't as heavy duty (not ATA rated) but solid none the less.

I have both SKB and Gator polyethelene ("ATA") racks. I never had problems with them slipping off of a cabinet, but they did slide when stacked on top of each other. I solved this with 1 1/2 by 3/4 inch rubber feetses...they don't slide any more...
