What shall I buy??!

ok, so I got a $1000 at my disposal.
I got a cheap slammer hammer bass, and I was looking to buy a new one.

I want a bass thats meant for slapping, or one thats very good for slapping, and like I said for around $1000

Theres probably many answers, but really, I have no clue what to get. Any suggestions?

Get ready for a ton of suggestions, maybe you should try to narrow your preferences.
What Kind of tone are you after? 4 strings or more? all of these points are important so people have a better basis to suggest.
I suggest
Fender Jazz
Musicman Stingray
Those two are the most versatile basses I've ever heard.

ok ok, well, im looking for a 4 string..

and im not looking for that punchy sound

I want more of a rubbery sound, like the musicman stingray, and fender jazz... so, maybe a fender jazz i think there a little lighter on the wallet, no?
but please keep in mind i only have $1000 to spend.

Look around for a Spector Euro Lx, Ive got one and the slap tone is amazing. You might have to find a used one. Personally I only like the 5 string version of the Musicman otherwise I would go with a Fender Jazz for the 4 string, but it sounds like the Spector is more to your liking. Also, keep in mind that your Amp/cab will have a big effect on your tone.

Go to the music store and find a couple you really like. Then find them here, ebay, etc.

I would split up the $$$ for amp and bass. You can get a lot of bass for $500 if you look around. I just sold an early 5-string Tobias Growler with Bartolini quad-coil and dual Bart preamps for about that amount on this very forum. And it was a slap MONSTER.

As for amp, same applies. Be frugal and patient and you can score something decent for $500.

And...unless you just won Powerball, I wouldn't recommend buying new.
